If you want to be more precise they're not really on the east bank of the river. Southern's campus is actually on the river. :ugeek:
I have had to bring my Rhodesian Ridgeback to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine to get Cranial Collateral Ligament surgery (same as the ACL on a human) and, if you look directly west of it, you see the levee for the river. Check it out on Google maps if you don't believe me.

But, it's all good... I guess a lot of people go with the Mississippi River as the dividing line. In that case the FBS title game will be between a west coast team (LSU) and an east coast team (Alabama).
I used it as such because I recall it being used in previous discussions. Actually, Frisco is pretty close to the center of an east/west axis across the contiguous United States. Without looking I'd say it's substantially west of where the majority of FCS schools are though.

It's been calculated before. The geographic center of the I-AA universe is somewhere in Kentucky.

Sounds more like a "Mean Center of Population" more than Geographic Center, which is in Kansas.

I'm talking about the geographic center of teams in I-AA, not the land mass of the US.

I have to see that to believe it. There are FCS teams in all 4 corners of the USA, so I'm thinking of the actual geographic center of FCS in Kansas.

Gil, it's the mean center based on the distribution of the teams. There are more teams in the east so the center is much further east than the geographic center.

The NCAA guessed right this time:

http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/344603/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
“There is a great demand, not only for North Dakota State, but also Sam Houston State,” said J.D. Hamilton, media coordinator for the Division I football championship.

Hamilton said the NCAA is attempting to free up a few hundred extra tickets within the stadium to allocate back to both schools.

“We are trying to adjust moving parts within the stadium to allocate more tickets to each institution,” Hamilton said. “There is a great demand in the local market as well, so we are trying to accommodate all three groups.”

One example of trying to free up tickets, Hamilton said, is moving the bands for both schools to an area with temporary seating. That could potentially open up 700 more seats.

Taylor said NDSU would continue to process pre-order ticket requests through noon Thursday. The tickets will be assigned to fans based on a points system. Those who have given money to NDSU or been longtime season-ticket holders will have higher priority.

“We’ll see where we are on Thursday and what becomes available, but there will be people who requested tickets through us that won’t get them, unfortunately,” Taylor said.

Tickets are also available if you’re willing to pay a premium on brokerage websites like StubHub. As of Monday night, prices ranged between $125 and $799 per ticket on StubHub.

The NCAA’s Hamilton said Monday he was “shocked” at the level of interest shown for this game, adding that as of last Thursday – before the two teams were determined – there were thousands of tickets available.

“The demand is up,” he said. “It’s good for the championship, maybe not for the fans, unfortunately.”

Where are all the Frisco detractors now? Yes I'm talking about the App fans and 89 & Ralph from AGS that were all convinced that the FCS world revolved around Chattanooga. Pizza Hut Park will be SRO, looks like the FCS Championship Game has found a new home for longer than the 3 years they were awarded.

I'm still for rotating the thing around the country though to be on the record.

Thanks, I was thinking he meant mean center and not geographic center.

Let's be fair though. This year's matchup is the perfect storm for Frisco. It's not going to be like this every year.

Next year if the BISON dont make it look for 13,000 again. That all EWU could muster last year.

I would also be for rotating it. Gives more people the chance to go and be part of the FCS championship.

You too need to be fair. The game was on a Friday night last year, the same time as the Cotton Bowl in the Cowboys 100K seat stadium a few miles down the road. If you are a casual fan from Texas, are you going to go see UD vs EWU or LSU vs Texas A&M?

The two teams in the game were from 1,000+ miles away. SHSU is 200.

And, replace either EWU or UD with a Southland team, you have a huge spike (as you noted).

You have three advantages this year:
1) A team that travels well (who the hell wouldn't want to get out of NoDak in January?)
2) A local team with plenty of alumni in the area
3) Open date

Last year's game was a 6:00pm local time kickoff on a Friday night on the outskirts of the Metroplex. I tailgated with & spoke to a lot of locals who all said the game would draw much better if it was being played on a different day & time.

Texas has proven it can support the game attendance wise just as good as anywhere else & their bid to host the game just crushed the competition. You guys have to remember - they don't have to sell even one ticket in Frisco for the NCAA to make more money off this than they did with what Chatty was giving them.

BTW - according to a number of reports besides the 8,000 allocated to the teams, the remaining 13,000 was sold out before last weekend.

Now that could mean to ticket brokers, but I highly doubt ticket brokers were betting that much and buying up 13,000 seats.

I'm guessing that having a #1-ranked, undefeated somewhat local team influenced ticket sales along the way.

I'm sure it had some effect, but I'm not sure you can just assume it was a material effect on the pre-sale tickets. SHSU only averaged 8,000 per game this year. Not exactly a major market participant in Frisco either.

Definitely helps though, no question.

Personally, I feel that ticket brokers and scalpers deserve their own special level of hell
or at least a POS post.

I understand that it's all an effect of supply and demand, but it would be nice if the schools involved could get a cut of some of those ridiculously inflated prices. Granted, I'm not sure how such a system could even be implemented, especially since some schools at the FCS level don't exactly have overly competent ticket distribution systems as it is.

You act like Chatty wasn't more than SRO when AppSt was in the finals. Frisco lucked out with the teams. There was nothing in the history of the NC game that would lead you believe that the Southland would have a team in the finals any time soon.
