Re: Amazing TD Reception...
if the defender had hit him (to try and keep him out of the endzone), they probably would have flagged/fined him for "hitting a defenseless player" or whatever

Jay: I was just looking at that again a couple of hours ago. It APPEARS that the defender actually TRIED to get him. The problem was that he went for the modern shoulder tackle, which is great for lighting people up for SportsCenter highlights but not much else. Had he gone for a textbook wrap-up tackle, he MIGHT have kept the dude out of the end zone. (Perhaps not, but there would have been more chance with that.)

doesn't the "textbook wrap-up tackle" involve going in lower? and that would have made jumping over the guy all that much easierSuperHornet wrote:Jay: I was just looking at that again a couple of hours ago. Nope. The shoulder block essentially turned it into a back body drop at best. With the wrap-up tackle, had he at least grabbed a leg, he could have dragged him down. Maybe Simpson still would have crossed the goal line, but with the defender's own momentum counteracting Simpson's, the play COULD have been held short.JayJ79 wrote:doesn't the "textbook wrap-up tackle" involve going in lower? and that would have made jumping over the guy all that much easierSuperHornet wrote:Jay: I was just looking at that again a couple of hours ago. Coach is on his ass because he could have cut to the right and literally walked into the end zone instead of performing this stunt and risking injury. Apparently he does this stuff at practice all the time, coach was quoted saying he would be making better judgements in the future.

That wasn't the only crazy play from last week Cruz and LaFell and their plays weren't easy either.SuperHornet wrote:...by Coastal's Jerome Simpson on what was just a dump-off pass intended to net a first down....
