Big deal. He set a record, that's cool. Well, it would be if. A. Every rule didn't favor the passing game or B. play half of his games in a dome.

Dan Marino still has the record as far as I am concerned.

Brady will break it next week as well...I'm sure the reaction for HIM will be much more positive

Congrats to Brees, should of broken it in 2008.

I'm more impressed by Aaron Rodgers' 45 TD passes this year.

Slap away, then. In a league where rule-makers have deliberately made it practically impossible to play traditional good defense (like it was when Marino played), breaking records that are directly tied to the changed rules don't impress me all that much. :ohno: :twocents:
You're basically putting up points and yards against defenses who have one arm tied behind their back. Good for you for taking advantage of it.

You think defense was "hard" during Marino's era? The tide turning against the defense actually happened in 1978 when they liberalized the holding rules, reduced it to 10 yards, and banned raping the receiver up and down the entire freaking field. If you want excellence against what was essentially no-holds-barred defense, look no farther than the early 1950s Rams, which averaged 39 points a game and over 500 total yards a game against the "real" old rules. Compared to that, Marino had a cake walk.

I get that. The issue here is Brees v. Marino. I don't think defense was "hard," I think the game was far more balanced and fair to both sides of the ball.

Playing in a dome is a penalty? (Where does NDSU play?)

It's not a penalty per se, but it allows Brees 8 games of perfect weather. I think it's unwise to understate that.

Dan Marino's 1984 season:

September 2, 1984 at Washington Redskins
September 9, 1984 New England Patriots
September 17, 1984 at Buffalo Bills
September 23, 1984 Indianapolis Colts
September 30, 1984 at St. Louis Cardinals
October 7, 1984 at Pittsburgh Steelers
October 14, 1984 Houston Oilers
October 21, 1984 at New England Patriots
October 28, 1984 Buffalo Bills
November 4, 1984 at New York Jets
November 11, 1984 Philadelphia Eagles
November 18, 1984 at San Diego Chargers
November 26, 1984 New York Jets
December 2, 1984 Los Angeles Raiders
December 9, 1984 at Indianapolis Colts
December 17, 1984 Dallas Cowboys

Doesn't seem that weather was much of a factor... :coffee:

I will say that Marino did it on far fewer attempts, and was only 23 in his second NFL season. Pretty impressive.

Agreed in the 70's WR's routinely got molested by DB's ask ppl what it was like to play against Mel Blount in his prime they would probably have told you it was the equivalent of being raped in prison. And in the 60's it was even worse as Super Hornet said.

That's not necessarily a given. The Oilers once had a game at the Astrodome rained out. The parking lot flooded. No fans, no game....

Not to mention that the only outdoors game he played this season north of the mason-dixon line was the season opener at Green Bay. His teams schedule was favorable to this record.

Brady will have played 9 outdoor games in the northeast or Colorado since October 30 and only 1 game this season came under a roof (at Dallas October 16)
