Boise State coach Chris Petersen appears to have reached agreement with the school on a $375,000-per-year raise and new five-year contract, according to a report in The Idaho Statesman on Tuesday.

The deal, coming 10 days after Petersen led the 12-1 Broncos to a MAACO Bowl win, is subject to approval by the state's education board in February.

Petersen's agreement calls for $2 million in the first year, $2.2 million in the second, $2.4 million in the third, $2.6 million in the fourth and $2.8 million in the fifth, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad on Tuesday.

Petersen gets a $100,000 retention bonus in his second year and a $200,000 retention bonus in contract years three through five.

Pocket change, the MAACO Bowl payout should easily cover the bulk of that raise. :coffee:

BCS money and the new $3 BILLION contract betwen the Pac-12 and TV couldn't lure him to UCLA, ASU or WSU....I highly doubt he'd go to some shitty Big East school...

Unless something changes soon, Peterson already IS in a Big East school....

Maybe he's content where he's at. If so, good for him. Well...good for him anyways.

Yep. I'm sure he's going to regret cashing $12 million worth of checks over the next 5 years.

We should all be so unlucky.

Kind of like Dan Monson regrets not taking the job as the head coach of the Minnnesota Golden Gophers basketball team? Oh wait he did take that job, how did that work out for him?

Just because you're moving to a better known conference and making more money on an annual basis doesn't mean it's a good move in the long-term.

+1

The grass is not always greener...

If he only has to win 8 games to secure some financial upgrades, he has it made even with a move to the Big East
