Apparently EWU was bringing back virtually most of the team that won the title just a year ago. Didn't translate into continued success though.
You know damn well TJ got drafted biitch. Not to mention the many injuries. I dont see Delaware in the title game either.

POINT IS: 5 TEAMS IN? 1 SHOULD BE IN THE CHIPPER. IF EWU, UM, MSU, CPSLO & PSU ALL GOT IN, IT WOULD BE BIG SKY VS BIG SKY IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

NDSU had most of it's players back from last year, and improved this year. :twocents:

We had over 20 different starters on each side of the ball. We were a young and inexperienced team during a rebuilding year half way through the season. Oh well, way it goes. Good luck!

Tough early season schedule didn't help EWU either.

NDSU has one of those next year, with Colorado St, UNI and YSU in September.

Funny the CAA has won 3 of the 4 national FCS awards this year.....definitely a down year...

Coach of the Year (Eddie Robinson Award) - Rob Ambrose - Towson
Defense Player of the Year (Buch Buchanan Award) - Matt Evans - New Hampshire
Rookie of the Year (Jerry Rice Award) - Terrence West - Towson

I know....I know.....but to say the CAA is dead or a dying conference is crazy. Some of the best young players and coaches in the country reside in the CAA.

Maybe I'm nitpicking, but you seemed to be disagreeing with my claim of a down year, not the Big Sky fans who were claiming dead or dying. 8-)

Nuance but you're right. I did initially disagree with a down year, but I now disagree with the Big Sky fans about a dying year and basically I just disagree with the entire premise of the thread and each and every post written in it, including my own. :dunce:

I doubt NDSU was starting a converted TE walkon at center by game 4. Or something like that... :coffee:

andy7171 wrote:Dead? Hardly. Argueably the two best teams Towson and ODU are compiled entirely of underclassmen.
Almost
-TU vs Lehigh game notes showed 18 of 23 starters as underclassmen, 5 seniors.
-ODU vs GSU game notes showed only 16 of 22 starters as underclassmen, 6 seniors.
Both have a most of their top players coming back. That includes maybe the top 2 FR in country, Jerry Rice Award winner RB for Towson & ODU's QB Taylor Heinicke, possibly will be the CAA pre season Offensive POY

JMU played NDSU very respectively, and that was JMU coming off their 3rd straight road game (all plane trips) and NDSU coming off of a bye. None of the other 3 teams (Lehigh, GSU, SHSU) had to deal with that. In the playoffs:
-NDSU gave up 3 TDs. JMU got 2 of them.
-JMU scored more points (14) on NDSU than did Lehigh, GSU, and SHSU combined (13).
-JMU was only outgained 329 to 301 and actually had more 1st downs and led TOP.

Oh, and JMU has:
-Offense 9 starters returning. Lose an OL and WR. Have a 10' starting OL and WR who missed last season returning, so that's 11 starters from the last 2 seasons back.
-#1 in CAA defense Defense 5 starters returning from the end of the season
+ starting DT who went down for season in game 2
+ 08'-09' starting LB who missed almost all of last 2 seasons
+ starting safety from Maryland (started 6 games), Rivals 4 star

Oh, and nice choke job by EWU- coming off an NC, pre season #1, and going 6-5

The CAA is by no means dead. As stated in another post, Towson and ODU will be better next year. James Madison was our toughest game of the playoffs(though I believe NDSU turned it up a notch for each game after playing their best defensively in the championship game). JMU is also bringing alot back. The key is to mix in the right new players and have a favorable schedule to allow them all to gel. Again, I think CAA is fine and will be alive and well in the polls and playoffs next year. Look forward to playing against the CAA, good competition is always good. Go Bison!!! :twocents:

A 10-foot starting OL?

You guys should switch him to TE and throw fade routes to him in the red zone.

I realize you're fishing here, and normally I'm not one to defend the tampons, but 6-5 was pretty damned respectable considering the devastating level of injuries the Eagles experienced in the first few weeks of the season. They literally had to cobble together a patchwork offensive line from walkons, tryouts and converted TE's....any other team would have folded the tent and accepted the inevitable fate and gone 2-9.

Which makes Mitchell's Payton winning performance even more impressive. I hate blaming injuries on a poor season because I don't like people using injuries as an excuse when we beat them but when it gets to the point that you don't even have enough healthy players to fill out a travel squad, it's an issue. I was damn proud of how that team finished out the season by winning 6 of the last 7 games and still almost making the playoffs despite the disastrous start to the season.

We were quite fortunate on the injury front in 2010 so I think we are due in 2012.
