Ohio State now attempting to legalize cheating
This could only happen with Ohio State. No SEC athletic department can sink as low as tO$U.

So....how are any of the schools not in a BCS conference going to afford to give each student $8,000.....dal4018 wrote:Why do you call this cheating all the money these athletes make for these schools and they don't get a dime!!!!!!!!!!Its about time!!!!!!!! I can promise you there isn't a single FCS school that has 1-2 million dollars laying around to give out as stipends.....

If other NCAA schools aren't allowed to pay their players, then how would Ohio St. not have an unfair advantage in recruiting?dal4018 wrote:Why do you call this cheating all the money these athletes make for these schools and they don't get a dime!!!!!!!!!!Its about time!!!!!!!! I wonder how Ohio St. would propose to control "outside" compensation so that it does not exceed the limit established in he legislation? We already know tO$U boosters routinely give "loaner" cars and cash to their star football players.
What makes Ohio St. think that the NCAA and Big Ten would not simply kick them out of the conference and NCAA?
I wonder if tO$U gymnasts, volleyball players and field hockey players would get the same "stipend" that is given to their football players. My guess is, not a chance in hell.

As you're a PSU fan, and obviously a fan of the Big Ten, you're being pretty hypocritical here. They obviously had to bring this up with the conference officials, and apparently they're on board with the idea. And since your Penn State is in the Big Ten, that associates them with it too.

The BCS schools know that there is a clear division between them and your standard FBS school. They don't like being even remotely considered as the same level of a Troy State, a Marshll, etc., etc...
With the difference between most of the BCS schools budgets and the struggling FBS lower 1/2 it is not surprising that they are gonna be very supportive of this idea across the ranks of the BCS.
Good luck to the teams not in the BCS, you're gonna need it.

Actually, I hate the Big Ten. What evidence do you have that this legislation was introduced with the approval of the Big Ten? Do you really think the Big Ten is ok with one school paying its players while the rest don't? Why the hell would they do that? This bill obviously has the approval of tO$U. Don't try to lay it at the feet of any other Big Ten school or the Big Ten Conference. How do you think the NCAA will take it?Willie wrote:As you're a PSU fan, and obviously a fan of the Big Ten, you're being pretty hypocritical here. Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot.
And for God's sake, it's just a proposal. People getting their panties in a bunch because a school they don't like proposed it. But if Notre Dame or Michigan or Texas offer it up.....it's suddenly brilliant and worth considering!
Fact:
Ohio State's athletic department is one of the most lucrative and well-to-do in the entire country in terms of revenue.
The Big 10 Network adds to this cash pile.
The Big 10's credibility goes down the tubes without Ohio State. Essentially, they are the ACC without them. Sorry, but Wisconsin, Michigan, and Penn State are not bringing home the bacon they used to without Ohio State's football money coming in.
Sure, the NCAA could kick them out, but something called business sense just tells me that it wouldn't be wise to kick out one of your biggest cash cows in an entire association just because they propose new legislation a couple lunatic Ohio State haters don't like.

Even funnier is that the dunce who started this topic didn't make one mention of the fact that this was proposed by an Ohio representative...NOT A MEMBER OF OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY.CitadelGrad wrote:Actually, I hate the Big Ten. Great job riling up the Ohio State trolls, though.
Hypothetically if this was brought up by Ohio State, my retort would be very simple:
If you could take the emotion out of it (not holding my breath), you'd understand something about higher education and its leadership. Every decision is politically and financially motivated. Financially in this case means both university AND conference, as both are involved with the distribution of money throughout their athletic programs. Remember, the conference makes money off of each individual member school (part of the reason Notre Dame won't join one until they get tired of getting their asses handed to them in the postseason). Also, very few college decisions are made on islands. I find it absurd and highly doubtful that Ohio State came up with this on their own. No doubt Ohio State's leadership consulted Jim Delaney, their own financiers, and other conference members.
You can't absolve yourself of this just because you think Penn State won't approve.
And again, it's just a proposal. Where were you when the $2,000 proposal was brought up? Were you crucifying the folks who suggested that? Call them a bunch of cheaters, too? Not once did I read in that article anything that suggested that Ohio State alone would pay their players $8,000 while everyone else paid one-fourth of that.![]()

Not sure what you mean with the pot and kettle comment. Penn State has never been sanctioned for a major NCAA violation in its history.rkwittem wrote:This is coming from a Penn State fan?CitadelGrad wrote:

I don't care how much money tO$U brings in. If you have one school openly paying athletes while all other schools don't, you will see the conference and NCAA come down on tO$U like a ton of bricks. It simply isn't permissible.
This isn't just some idiotic proposal. It is a bill that is working its way through the Ohio state legislature and was written by an Ohio State grad. If tO$U wanted to quash it, they could do it easily. Instead, the university has remained publicly silent on the matter. Silence = consent.

You really wanna go there? No, but your coaches like to rape children. I'd say paying your players is a little more, well HUMANE, than what your school is now known for forever.CitadelGrad wrote:Penn State has never been sanctioned for a major NCAA violation in its history.

Yeah, I'll go there. Ohio State has a history of systemic violations of NCAA rules and low graduation rates for its players. Penn State had one coach who hasn't been with the program since 1999, sexually abuse children.Willie wrote:You really wanna go there? No, but your coaches like to rape children. The guys over at EDSBS, years ago noticed a strong correlation between support for Ohio St. football and sex crimes. Google "buckstache".

One guy who hasn't been with the program since last millennium allegedly does something stupid, and you wanna go global like D1B? That just doesn't fly....

That is the single dumbest thing I have ever read. It went on for YEARS with many in the know. Selling personal property and trading personal property are in no way, shape, or form the same as rape. So your comment doesn't fly dummy. It went fucking global months ago so why would you even attempt to make it sound like I'm saying something new here.SuperHornet wrote:Willie, Willie, Willie....

Re: Ohio State now attempting to legalize cheating
There's a HUGE difference between a systemic problem of things happening all over the place and ONE guy allegedly doing something over a period of time with others knowing about it. If it's true (and it certainly hasn't been proven yet, though it does look bad), it's still just one person. It's definitely NOT every person on the entire campus doing it as you're insinuating.

Miami, Florida State, USC...I can go on with the list of schools that have done far worse things than bring up a thought about giving players some sort of stipend.
So take your thumbs down, and shove it up your ass.

A bunch of people supposedly knowing about ONE person allegedly doing stupid stuff is NOT the same thing as a bunch of people doing stupid stuff, even if that one person is supposedly doing unconscionable things.
