Defense dollars per state:

http://www.nemw.org/fedspend4.htm

South Carolina gets 120% of the average per capita defense spending.

Pork-Palin Alaska gets 351% of average per capita defense spending, AND 130% of all other federal per capita spending...

I'm surprised that North Carolina was as low as it is. The eastern third of the state would drop off the map economically if the bases were to close.

That is not as large a percentage as I would have thought. did you find a break down of all expenditures?

If 100% is the total you can achieve, how can you have any more? I never understood that.

I'm not dissin' Virginia...just sayin you can't use the defense spending per capita figures to judge a state's military pork...or worse, try to equate it to the state population's poverty level or intelligence quotient.

NY has Fort Drum?...and how about RI and CT per capita figures?...just saying this is an apples and oranges argument...

The point wasn't military pork. It was trying to understand why some states might receive a proportionally higher amount of fed money than taxes paid. No one was complaining about military $. Just looking for reasons for some of the other percentages.
