The Dakota Big 3 is not about puffing your chest out or fighting Darell. They are not athletic factories. They dont celebrate rivalries with cracked skulls, fights and law suits. The Dakota Big 3, win or lose, have something much better. Its about tradition, competition and conference affiliation.

The Dakota Big 3: NDSU, SDSU and Jr. Member in transition USD.

Its a great tradition going back over 100 years. These are the schools that have seen the value in preserving what has been there from the begining. These are the schools in the Dakota Big 3: NDSU, SDSU and USD.

What is at stake between the Dakota Big is something outsiders are not part of. The BISON didnt win the Little Brown Jug the last couple times they were at the Gophers. They didnt win the MAC Conference Championship when they beat Central Michigan. They didnt get a win in the Big 12 when they downed Kansas. They did get the Border Marker when they beat the Jackrabbits though.

The NDSU BISON Did win the FCS National Championship Football trophy after 3 sold out playoff games in the insanely popular Fabulous Fargo Dome. Its one of the nations top football venues and has been celebrated in the national press as one of the best home fields in the country. Its the biggest sports stage in the North Dakota. The biggest games in North Dakota are played when the NDSU BiSoN take the field at the insanely popular Faboulous Fargo Dome. Right now its the crown jewel in the Dakota Big 3 football crown.

By the way, USD is a transition school so any football wins over them are not official Big Dakota 3 wins. They can be scored with all the UND lower division games though.

Since UND is in transition any wins against them don't count fine...UND is 0-0 vs the 3 in football (2010 loss to SDSU doesn't count in your eyes) and UND is 2-0 vs the 3 in basketball since losing to SDSU doesn't count. Got it.

Not this coming year. I know you like taking "pot shots" at NDSU but with what we have coming back for returning starters, no way we lose to SDSU in Fargo and USD there.

USD loses a ton of starters and they were ave this year...at best. Ill State held them to barely 100 yds of offense. They will have a tough time in the Valley this year...probably every year.

SDSU always plays us tough but we should keep the marker another year.

Get real darell. The NDSU BISON are the National FCS Football Champmions. Your dream world of NDSU losing to USD and SDSU has nothing to do with any reality.

You are so caught up in the winning or losing you miss every single higher point that has to do with the essence of the Dakota Big 3. Its not about winning or losing on the athletic field, its about the competition, the partnerships, the traditions and the future. The Dakota Big 3 have a much better future because of their allegiance to one another. That is why UND, a school that recently lost its right to use its long time indian imagery and name after 50 yrs of hostilities between themselves The Tribes and the NCAA, is not in the Dakota Big 3. These higher concepts are beyond the insitituitonal and individual UND fans understanding. The naming issue illustrates this.
