Something needs to change - Bearkat Article

The main sports writer for the Huntsville Item has called out the Bearkats and I am glad he did. Hopefully the coaching staff reads the paper.

It’s been 24 hours since Thursday night’s fiasco at Bowers Stadium, and I’m still left scratching my head about what happened.

I would flat out be lying if I thought Sam Houston State’s first game of the season was going to be — well exactly what is was — a letdown. And it wasn’t just the fans who were disappointed but the Bearkats themselves as I watched their reactions down of the field afterward.

This team came one game within winning of the Southland Conference championship last season, and the pieces are there to to compete again in 2007. The problem is that the one thing that held them back a year ago seems to be the same thing they were lacking in Thursday’s 17-13 hold-on-for-dear-life victory over Angelo State.

Last year, too many Griz fans seemed satisfied with the wins rather than consistently improving execution.
To me, the writing was on the wall and I expected the season to end with UMass.
If the Griz were to have a chance at the NC the semi's would have to be played in Missoula.
It wasn't enough.
I like the coaching philosophy of guys like Bo Schembechler. He didn't care if the score was 100-0, he expected perfect execution on every play...the score took care of itself.

SHSU can console themselves with the win. Let's hope they are not satisfied with it.
