Edsall refused to release Danny Obrien at Maryland. Kind of a dick move.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Wannstedt did the same to Flacco. We'd have had him for three seasons otherwise.andy7171 wrote:Edsall refused to release Danny Obrien at Maryland. Kind of a dick move.
Edsall is really winning the hearts and minds in College Park.

Or better yet, demonstrate the ability to scout a QB, recruit and sign him and perhaps keep one in the system for 4 or 5 years which leads to greater success and stabilizes the program.Cap'n Cat wrote:Restraint of trade. IMO that has been the one big failing of Keeler. Yes he's been successful and yes he won a NC and went to the finals two other times but if he was successful in recruiting and developing QB's the program would be that much better and that much better off.
This is pure speculation on my part but I wonder if the over reliance on transfer QB's has hurt his prospects of landing a BCS job, because he has won and runs an otherwise clean and good program.

They posted the release and transfer stipulations at the Washington Post but I can't find the sum beeches. Vandy was one of 'em, but ...89Hen wrote:He did? If O’Brien graduates from Maryland in the spring, he can transfer to another FBS school and play immediately, so long as he enrolls in a graduate program not offered at Maryland.
I thought the Hens would be all over himIn the 24 hours since O’Brien’s transfer was made official, the quarterback has already received significant interest from many schools. Mississippi, Arizona, South Florida and East Carolina are only some of the schools that have already shown serious interest.
Also - James Franklin denies improper contact with Danny O’Brien and two other players who will transfer from Maryland
I'm kinda ambivalent -- young folks 'bond' more with position coaches, and position coaches move around quite a bit. I can see where HCs would want to slap the kibosh on it.

Yeah, it's pure speculation and purely misses the mark. Keeler's been at Delaware for 10 years, in that time he's had either good to spectacular QB play for 8 of the 10 years. Only the Schoenhoft debacle in 2008 and the situation this past year (just ok QB play from the backup after losing the starter, both high school recruits btw, for the whole season, and maybe his career, in the season opener) has the QB play not been like I said, either good or spectacular.blueballs wrote:Or better yet, demonstrate the ability to scout a QB, recruit and sign him and perhaps keep one in the system for 4 or 5 years which leads to greater success and stabilizes the program.Cap'n Cat wrote:

In fact, you can probably say that the QB position has been the best staffed position on the entire roster in Keeler's time at UD. And I'll go even further - name me three schools who have had a better run of QB's in that time than Keeler has - from Hall to Riccio to Flacco to Devlin. Hard to argue with the results - KC's QB's, no matter where they have come from, have excelled far more than they've failed. If he was as successful with the rest of the team as he is the QB spot UD would have more than one ring in that time.

It'd be naive to think Keeler & O'Brien haven't had some kind of communication but right now it sounds like he has his eyes set on a BCS level squad. Interesting Arizona is on that list with RichRod there - seems like a bad fit.

I think you missed my bigger point... it does matter where they come from. Nobody can dispute that Keeler has enjoyed very good QB play from Hall through Devlin but all those players were guys who had transferred DOWN a level. Keeler has not yet demonstrated the ability to scout a QB in HS, sign him, develop him, and keep him in the program and win with him over a 4 or 5 year period.
At the BCS level there is not a lot of transferring and virtually no transferring down. Keeler's record would indicate that he should be receiving more interest from BCS schools but that doesn't seem to be the case and there has to be a reason.

Re: Which Big East Locker Room Did Delaware Troll For A 2012
So is your point about KC's ability to field a competitive team and program at this level or is it about KC's chances of taking a BCS level job? You make the point in your first post that the program (UD is the implication) would be better off as a program if we had a track record of only bringing in high school QB's. But obviously that isn't the case since again, 8 out of 10 years UD's had good to spectacular QB play, and likely has had the best cumulative QB play of almmost any program in FCS football over the past 10 years (still waiting for the list of schools that have had a better run over that time). So again, why does it matter where the QB comes from? UD is clearly not suffering in terms of QB play so it doesn't seem as if it matters at all.blueballs wrote:GannonFan wrote:

As for his appeal to BCS level coaching hires, first of all, how many FCS coaches are being hired into BCS head coaching gigs anyway? It's not a very long list and most of them go into assistant jobs before becoming head coaches. Keeler's name has been out there for the job openings - Michigan, UConn, Pitt, Rutgers. Who knows if any of those rumors have any credence? Unless you're the AD at one of those schools, no one really knows. But remember - Joe Flacco was recruited by UD before he went to Pitt, and Flacco didn't really develop at Pitt - he got beat out by Tyler Palko of all people. He goes to UD, is there for 3 seasons (sat out the first because Pitt wouldn't release him from his schollie, and then he played the last two) and turns into a first round draft pick. It's hard to argue that UD, and Keeler, didn't do a good job of developing him.

Because that's where their OC went and Edsall believes that he violated rules on engaging O'Brien while he was still under schollie. Either that or he's just really a prick like Wanstadt at Pitt when he wouldn't let Flacco go.UNI88 wrote:Why exclude Vandy? They're not in the same conference.89Hen wrote: He did? If a player performs well and gets a good education, who really cares if he matriculated from a high school, JC or another D-I school? It only seems to matter to fans of those schools who are beaten more often than not by Keeler.
