If he was a public school kid across the river, I'm guessing he's never heard of your school. Not a slam on your alma mater, but it's amazing how wide the Potomac is. Shoot, bandle thought St. Michaels was just south of Annapolis. ;)

We beat Laurel in football and lacrosse every year. And a huge brawl occured after every one of them. Basketball, not so much.

Not going to guess because I don't care about Laurel, MD.

The guy involved in this sounds like a real piece of shit - allegedly kicked in her door, knocked the crap out of her, slammed her into a wall a few times, and left her for dead. You know, because he was sad they had broken up. But he didn't mean to kill her. One of the reasons why I'm glad I don't have any daughters - the fear that they could end up meeting one of these pieces of shit.

Not to be completely crass, but is this something frowned upon by hardened criminals? She was the same age as him.

No, it's not. Certainly child rapists/murderers are low man on the pole in jail, but people that kill women aren't exactly royalty. Inmates read the paper and word will get around what this punk did. If they don't segregate him, he'll be someone's bitch by the end of his first week, and that's a fitting rehabilitation for scum like this kid, IMHO.

 Landon vs Georgetown Prep is a preview of more than a dozen DI players every year. But the surprise this year was from the Catholic boys down at Gonzaga...

I didn't play lacrosse, but in football my HS scrimmaged Landon every year and played the Little Hoyas 3x (one loss, one win, and one tie).

As I remember we usually had a decent lacrosse team. Played Landon every year and as I remember lost to them every year, usually handily.

The perp was just found guilty of 2nd degree murder and grand larceny, among other crimes. Per NBC-4 in DC.

Jury recommended 26 years - sentencing in summer - supposedly Va judges follow jury sentencing closely.

Was surprised none of the news teams were in front of Landon this morning. I didn't follow the trial (not really much to follow) but did they not go for murder one?

Article says prosecutors asked for murder one - defense said involuntary manslaughter.

This was big news up here because Love was from Baltimore. The jury had to choose 1st degree, 2nd degree or manslaughter. And of course not guilty. But even the defense admitted he had some part in her death. I think his reaction to the interrogating dectective when he let Hughley know she was dead saved him from 1st degree murder. He was honestly in shock she died.

I guess I was wrong in thinking that the prosecution had to choose the degree of murder they sought. Didn't that come into play in the Casey Anthony trial?
