Re: App knocks off #7 LSU 1-0
I listened to App's head coach yesterday in a local radio interview as I was headed fishing. I'm not even much of a baseball fan but he was interesting to listen to.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

We win game 2
11-1

Gave up a run in the bottom of the 9th. If not for that it would have been the first time LSU had been shut out in back-to-back games since 1974.

http://www.goasu.com/ViewArticle.dbml?D ... =205388971" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Adding to a long list of accolades for Appalachian State University baseball following its series victory over No. 7 LSU this past weekend, senior Ryan Arrowood was named the National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and CollegeBaseball360.com’s Primetime Peformer of the Week on Tuesday.
Arrowood retired 20 of the 23 hitters he faced in Saturday’s 1-0 win over LSU, helping Appalachian become the first non-conference opponent to shut out the Tigers in nearly eight years. After allowing the Bayou Bengals’ first two batters to reach base, the right-hander settled in to sit down 16 in a row, striking out five-straight on two separate occasions along the way.
Thanks in large part to matching a career high with his 10 strikeouts, Arrowood threw 107 pitches through seven innings before giving way to closer Nathan Hyatt, who worked the final two frames to complete the 1-0 masterpiece.
Arrowood’s effort was the highlight of a weekend full of scintillating pitching performances for the Mountaineers. In all, Appalachian limited LSU to just five runs in winning 2-of-3 games at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. The Tigers’ five runs were their lowest scoring output in a three-game home series since 1982. LSU, which was averaging 11 runs per game and hitting .333 as a team coming into the series, hit just .172 against ASU with only two of its 16 hits going for extra bases.
Arrowood and the Mountaineers (5-2), 5-3 winners over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, make their home debut this weekend when they host a four-game series versus Rider (3-1). ASU’s 2012 home opener is set for 3 p.m. Friday at ASU’s Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.
