Sadly, this is right. Easily the most uncomfortable 6 minutes that I've spent in all my years of Dahlberg Devotion!
Hat's off to Art Steward for literally "taking one for the team".

So could Montana. It was so hard to watch last night and Im not even an Eastern fan. When an Eagle can go inside and get slapped on the arm no call and down the court Jamar or Cherry barely gets touched and they get an and one something is fishy, especailly that foul towards the end of the game where the Eastern player had picked up his dribble and layed the shot up while getting fouled and makes the basket, the ref takes his basket away but Eastern shoots free throws? If it was before the shot why is he shooting freethrows? And Eastern was not in the bonus yet either. Montana shot 32 Ft's compared to only 13 for the Eagles, the Griz more than doubled EWU's total, and Griz fans were complaining about the lack of fouls on Eastern?
Were there horrible calls both ways? yeah sure, Eastern had a few travels that werent called, but as an unbiased observer, I could tell that the Griz were getting quite a bit of love last night.
The last thing I want to see is Weber get totaly hommered, that was hard to watch for Eastern last night, it was hard to watch last year in the championship game for the Griz, I dont want to see it tonight in anybodies favor, Let em play ref. BOTH SIDES
I agree they should be allowed to play more than happened last night but remember a lot of our FTs came at the end when they were intentionally fouling. Also they had a lot of travels not called, not just one or two. And the call against Weisner for the elbow on that rebound. Give me a fucking break.

Weisner did come down with the elbow, I saw it on tv and in slow mo, he came down with it and then lowered his shoulder into the EWU player, it looked like a good call.

Mathias Ward went 12-12 from the line, and really should have had about 25 chances. He was getting brutalized every time he touched the ball and routinely ignored by the refs. Same with Selvig, who only got 4 chances from the line...absolutely hammered every time he touched the ball. Honestly, it was embarrassing...there were people in the bar I was watching it in who couldn't BELIEVE the level of physicality underneath from EWU's players with no calls...
And Vidav is right: ANY team that wins is usually going to have more FT attempts as they pile up at the end of the game. The # of attempts is hardly indicative of how the refs called the game.

EWU didnt even start fouling till like 36 seconds left and UM only shot 6 in the last 30 seconds not really piling up, so it was a 26-13 difference before they started fouling, you still doubled thier attempts UM had 8 freethrows in the last 2 minutes of the first half, and that was all thier points in the last 2 minutes EWU had 0 a 33-24 game turned into a 35-30 halftime lead.
UM got away with just as much or more than EWU.

Doesn't make the call against Weisner any less egregious. From now on, any game where we ever out-foul the opponent, or lose, I'm blaming on the refs. New policy.

Great game. Lillard played awesome but the Griz just went off in the second half. All the Grizzly starters with double digit points and 2 over 20. It was a lot of fun.
Also congrats to Kareem Jamar for getting the tournament MVP. Well deserved.

Yep, though Ward made a case to beat him out. Now it's even harder to believe Mathias didn't get any all-conference honors. Selvig also played well; his scoring kept the Griz in it in the first half.Vidav wrote:Also congrats to Kareem Jamar for getting the tournament MVP. Well deserved.
The Griz just couldn't miss in the second half. Quite a contrast with last year's title game when they couldn't hit a three to save their lives.
