2012 Big Sky Predictions

Post by EWURanger »

Brock Landers wrote:Yes, I was just arguing the one point about our 2011 team.

Though I think we're the favorites this year because I like our schedule, and our offense, and I think our defense will be better than some are giving it credit for. But yes, it will be down a notch from it's (excellent) 2011 squad.

And not to beat the dead horse, but the advantage of Wa-Griz is so huge, it has to play into the predictions. 3 losses in 6 seasons (that included a number of playoff games against elite teams) by a total of 8 points to three playoff teams, that all came down to the wire.
Don't remind me......2007, 2009, and 2011 were all 3-7 point losses to UM if I remember correctly. And I agree, Wa-Griz is a good advantage, especially for teams that are not used to playing there.

That was Sac State's Super Bowl…

The rest of the season was their Pro Bowl.

Fully acknowledge that transfer QB's don't always work out, none the less, when you go from two QB's with virtually no game experience to one who started for over a full season at the FBS level, won a bowl game, and will have a position coach and HC with Meyer, Nichols, and BLM on their resume, I think EWU should now be moving up a little on some of these lists. :coffee:

A great example of transfer QB's not working out is Alabama Crimson Tide transfer Jimmy Barnes who transfered to Weber State and lost his starting position 4 games into the season to a Freshman.

Like I said to begin with...but for the record, we've extremely good luck with our last two.

As I said in another thread Blankenship > Meyer > Nichols > Mitchell isn't so much luck as it is great coaching. But we'll need a solid running game in the early part of the season to help ease in the new QB.

I was at that game we lost because our coach did not know how to manage a clock. I don't think that you have a favorable scheduled compared to the other schools. I have seen the other schools play and I don't think that you will win. Welcome to the big sky every thing you have done in another conference is meaningless when you win a BSC title ISU has three and a national championship ISU has one then you can brag until then UND has done SH#T.

3 Big Sky titles in 63, 81, and 02. National Title in 81. So you are bragging for a title you won 31 years ago?? Okay. UND has beaten a ranked SUU team last year (you picked them 7th) UND beat a ranked Cal Poly team in 2009 (you ranked them #1). UND as a non-counter in 08 beat your ISU team you have them 6th. We did lose to Montana by 10 in 2010 (our 3-8 season). We beat Montana State the last time we played them in 1983 (still more recent than your National title). We beat UC Davis last season (you ranked them 10th). UND won a share of their first FCS Conference title in 2011. Idaho State hasn't had a winning season since 2003. UND has had one losing season (2010) since 1986. So when you win more games than you lose then start bragging. Oh and that game UND vs ISU in 08...31-7 in the 3rd Qtr, ISU came back to cut it to 31-28 but UND was just the better team.

I like it that the BSC teams see us GWFC teams (exception to maybe Cal Poly) as a cakewalk. We can't compete with the BSC teams. Well if you are Montana or MSU you may throw that in our faces but a team like Idaho State? Okay. I guess we will have to show them and the rest of the conference what we are made of.

For what it's worth I think UND will be a top 4-5ish program in the Big Sky once they're settled

What I am saying is that SUU and UND are good schools it is great that you are in the BSC. Your schedule is not in your favor. I dont see you wining more than 4 conference games. If you think you are going to beat MSU, cal poly and EWU thats your opinion. I think the UM game is up for grabs with all the problems. So possible 5

PSU ?
@ SAC L
CalPoly L
@ EWU L
NAU ?
UM L
@ MSU L
SUU ?
@ NCU w
BEAT WEBER!!!

Wins against PSU, Sac, Cal Poly, NAU, UM, SUU, and UNC. Losses EW, MSU...remember PSU is a non-conference game.

Um, no.

It's not GWFC teams that are a "cakewalk." It's specifically UND. And that's only for a couple of years until the Sioux (or whatever they end up being called -- shut up, lakes/JaBBer) make the adjustment to the league. Cal Poly will be competitive immediately, and the Farm Extension will be middle of the pack and improve from there.

So after this first year then everyone should know roughly where UND would sit, but for now they sit with UNC and ISU on the sidelines.

Not sure what reality that's based on
