Stony Brook?
Albany?
Youngstown St.?
Liberty?
C.Carolina?

Or basketball schools?

I say good riddance. We lose 2 dead weight non-football schools to a conference that cannot even correctly count how many members it has. Maybe they need 2 new members to be the Atlantic 10 in hexidecimal. :D

Liberty would be a good geographic replacement for one of them. Stony Brook and Albany would shift the balance of power in the CAA to the north. I'm not so sure the southern members would like that. YSU is probably too far outside the CAA's footprint to consider. Coastal is close to VA and would maintain a good geographic rivalry for Liberty should they go together. The rest of the Big South is either too far from the CAA's identified potential losses or just plain not good enough for the CAA. I'd consider a couple of SoCon schools like App and WCU. I'm not saying they'd be interested or that the CAA would look to the SoCon. I'm just saying that for the caliber of the CAA, they'd take less of a RPI hit with someone like App.

So, gut feeling if CAA loses three: Liberty, Coastal, and Western Carolina. (I think App is probably too tied to the other SoCon schools to go for it.)

BTW, I would shy away from calling Liberty NOT a basketball school. They DID make the NCAAs this year, albeit as a 16 seed, and they lost as one would expect for such a seed.

What? UNC-Asheville won the Big South. Basketball schools are schools that don't have fb. Liberty has football. I can't see any Socon school leaving for the CAA. JMU and ODU could end up in the MAC or SBC down the road too. Best of both worlds for ODU would be A10 and MAC fb only.

If Charlotte leaves, I'm thinking the A10 will go for another school to get to 16.

W&M would have no problem with Stony Brook and Albany. Adding them would help ease concerns of UNH and Maine for football, and Hofstra and Northeastern for other sports. The SoCon schools we would most be interested in would be Furman, Wofford, and Elon. We'll trade Georgia State for one of those.

Scratch Liberty from the options. We are focused on FBS at the moment.

Frankly I don't believe that the CAA would be desperate to add anyone unless a new FBS league forms and they lose schools en masse.

I haven't heard anything that would indicate that the CAA would be looking to add if VCU & GMU leave. Heck, I hope they leave personally, they're not FB schools & it'd make it easier for UD to win in hoops.

Why stick at 10 when you have 3 schools that have FBS interest. Georgia St., JMU, ODU. Wasn't something posted about how long will Maine be able to keep up w/ the CAA in fb? They may have to drop it or go to the NEC like URI. Nova has a coupon to join the BE for fb by 2015 but none of the posters think that Nova is going to join BE fb.

No. That's not true. A "basketball school" is one that has success in basketball, which often outshines the football team if there is one. Your definition is tantamount to I-AAA, which isn't the same thing.

FWIW, Liberty DID make the NCAA Tournament. They were the #16 seed in the Raleigh Region, and unfortunately got spanked by #1 Notre Dame 74-43.

NEWS FLASH! NO ONE EXPANDING A CONF USES WOMENS BBALL AS A GAGE ON WHO TO BRING IN!

So in your mind since Fresno St. has now went to 5 women's tourneys in a row, we are a basketball school. :suspicious:

When I say basketball school, I mean a school w/o football, I think everyone but you understood what I meant. Schools like GMU and VCU and being replaced by another bball school like Boston U. or Winthrop or Siena.

Um, no. Schools like UNC, Kentucky, and Kansas have ALWAYS been considered "basketball schools," yet they have football, too. It's just that their football teams generally SUCK.

Get it right. There's a BIG difference between I-AAA and "basketball school."

The term I-AAA was dropped when I-A and I-AA was. So go back to your cave and finger yourself to the thought of Liberty being a "bball school". Did you notice that all of those are top notch MENS basketball schools, womens sports doesn't make the world go round or else UConn would be in the B1G right now, not Nebraska. So like everyone else but you knows and is able to comprehend is that I named schools w/ fb that they could look at or would they consider any schools w/o football, aka basketball schools.

you tell me to get it right? you have yet to get anything right in life. This is not a place for little girls like yourself that want to turn an expansion thread into Liberty being a bball school because the girls got a 16 seed this year. Are you going to include what color you painted your nails in this thread? I mean it has the same relevance and Liberty womens basketball 16 seed being why or why not the CAA adds them. :tothehand:

Sly Fox, thanks for a real answer on Liberty :thumb:

why not? Where else can I make getting nails painted having the same relevance as her comment does on expansion?

How do you guys deal w/ her? She reminds me of Blu's score of 0, ruining the rest of the pledges scores(in Old School)preventing them from becoming a Frat.

Yeah no kidding. Why the fuck would anyone in their right mind join the WAC now. My favorite were the "now is never a better time for Sac State to join" nonsense they were going with.

Tough to predict the future on this one. UMass was close to dropping football then they go I-A. GMU and VCU have both thought about introducing football. Would the CAA invite them back in after leaving? Richmond kinda snuck back into the CAA through the Yankee/A10 door. IF the CAA wants to keep teams like Maine and UNH around for football and NU and Hoftsra around for all sports, it would make sense for the CAA maybe think about adding Albany and/or Stony. I've said it for years, if I had my druthers CAA football would only be for all-sport CAA teams. Nothing personal against Nova, Richmond, UNH or Maine.

Interesting point on Northeastern and Hofstra.

On Hofstra - do you think they would be for or against Stony Brook as an all-sport CAA member?

It would be great for a Long Island rivalry, but it could hurt recruiting.

We have played VCU for over 50 years in hoops without rergard to NCAA division or conference affiliation. We have played GMU since the early '80's. Those relationships I'm sure would continue. My comments related to football as any person with moderate intellectual capacities could discern.

I'm not sure I buy that CAA sports is a huge recruiting tool. I'm thinking that having a local partner in the CAA would be more of a benefit than a hinderance. If we were talking about Hofstra cornering the market in Long Island I could see the reverse, but I know there were TONS of kids from LI at UD.
