As a former UOP football player, I am utterly DISGUSTED by this move. It caters to ONE sport only: the boys hoops team. The softball team will likely be relegated to the PCSC unless the WCC can be convinced to sponsor softball. With the presence of CS-Bakersfield, Seattle U, and Idaho State, the PCSC will kill UOP's RPI (or whatever they call it for softball). Since only Loyola Marymount, USD, St. Mary's, and Santa Clara in the WCC currently sponsor softball, somebody would probably have to convince Gonzaga, San Fran, or Pepperdine to also do it.

That said, I seem to be the ONLY one on the UOP boards to deplore this move. The rest of them have been pushing for it for some time. They want an excuse to level the recently condemned football stadium. The school also announced that an unnamed female sport would be added soon; this could be an excuse to do that.

Newsflash sh, only 1 sport matters in realignment...football. Mend basketball is a distant second for most schools.

There isn't a single school other than UCONN,and even them I doubt, that gives a rats ass what conference the women play in unless the travelling cost would cripple them

Are all of the other WCC schools Catholic?I was under the impression that it was mostly a hoops conference anyway.

No football - only San Diego has a team in the Pioneer, and BYU (not Catholic) is Indy in football.

BYU (MOMO) and Pepperdine (Church of Christ). rest are Catholic

Newsflash, clenz: Football doesn't matter AT ALL when one is speaking of I-AAA schools.

You might want to check Tennessee before you go off half-cocked with an inane statement like that.

They are all faith based institutions. Pepperdine and BYU are the only non-Catholic schools. Hoops is the conference's bread and butter.

Well, there is now a caveat to that, SJ. UOP was historically a Methodist school, but while they continue to recognize Methodist schollies, they gave up the direct connection back in the late '60s. There is still a school chaplain and some semblance of a Religion Department (mostly to cover general ed), but it is by no means a "religious school" any longer, at least not in the sense of Liberty or Notre Dame.
