We didn't try to polish that, we just built a new place. :thumb:
I can see why UM scrapped Dornblaser, if I recall the pictures I've seen it was mostly wooden with aluminum bleachers. But there's no reason for EWU to start over from scratch. The press box and north side stands are still pretty new, and the west side stands are old, but holding up just fine. Plus new field turf in 2010. Once the facility on the east side is built, it'll make a HUGE difference in the "feel" of the entire stadium.

They're going to have to open some sort of new facility for track and field anyway, since the plan calls for the removal of the existing track, which will also make a big difference. Eventually I'd like to see them lower the field for improved site-lines. :thumb:

Well if they're removing the track, I would assume they're moving the field closer to the West stands or lowering it and adding more seating. Would make no sense to just remove it but leave the empty space.

Roos is built into the side of a hill with a relatively new press box and a terrific view so other than some seating upgrades to that side of the stadium and the new addition there's no need to bail.

Yea, you say that now, but that new side is gonna be dope, louder, cleaner, better concessions etc.. You'll switch.

It is nice of them to put in 8000 additional seats for the Griz fans but what are they going to use them for the rest of the season??? :thumb:

It is great they are making the effort to upgrade the facility and increase their fanbase. The improvements being put forth by the BSC institutions is to the benefit of the whole conference. Good luck!

Looks great...I hope EWU is more aggressive with their vision than we were...our AD presented us with some stadium sketches that knocked our socks off...that was four years ago and we still have nothing to show for it but some banners. They clearly committed to the turf...and that was a bold move. Here's hopin it works out.

On the EWU-WSU pregame show today they were talking about this. Turns out a team from EWU recently visited App State, JMU, Virginia, and a couple other schools to take a look what they've done. Sounds like this thing will happen sooner rather than later.

Also, the giant new jumbo-tron and sound system will be in place for the Montana game.

Some more pictures of the Gateway Project from the recent Board of Trustees presentation last week. The rumor is that there are enough big money donors on board to start construction, projected completion by start of the 2014 season. Needless to say, I am pretty pumped about this project.

I had a chance to talk with former EWU head coach/AD Zornes at the Cal Poly/EWU game and he talked like it was a done deal. I also talked to another person that currently works in the athletic dept. at EWU and he also talked like it was just a matter of when (and he made it sound as if it would be soon) and not if.

That's cool that you got a chance to meet Coach Zornes. He's pretty much the founder of modern day EWU football as he was one of the big proponents of the University moving to Divion I in the late 70's/early 80's.

What does the visitors side look like?

I like the home side. Lots of seat backs which is nice. I think the little cut out by the bench area is a nice touch.

The new grandstand will become the new home side.

I'm torn as to where which seats we would buy. The view from the old grandstand is absolutely outstanding. Cheney is the highest elevated incorporated city in the state of Washington and Roos has a commanding view south and east looking over Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge and the Palouse to the Idaho foothills. Steptoe and Kamiak Butte's are visible in the distance.

Not sure about which side the media would be on. I tend to think it will stay in the press box on the west side since that is a fairly new facility and the suites in the new facility seem geared more towards club type suites.

Looks like it will be mostly steel construction: I want to find the bigger version of the below picture...in that perspective the new structure certainly looks imposing. Here's some more info:
More than a stadium, the Gateway Project is a 250,000 square foot mixed-use facility that redefines the center of the Eastern Washington University campus. Football amenities include approximately 9,500 new seats located on multiple decks with premium seating options that include 1,100 club seats, 22 loge boxes, and 20 suites. A new football operations center below the seating bowl includes a state of the art athletic training facility that will be utilized by athletics and external partnerships.

PCS Structural Solutions has developed a detailed schematic design including a Revit model to facilitate budgeting for the EWU Foundation. Poor soils conditions along with an existing utilidor through the entire project created unique challenges. PCS proposed a lateral and vertical structural solution that meets the client’s needs, provides efficiencies in construction phasing, and creates flexibility for the multiple levels of horizontal program and egress.

The Gateway Project is primarily funded through private donations. It is intended to be completed for the 2015 or 2016 football season.

From what I have heard from a couple folks within the University it's "when", not "if". I.E. by the 2014 or 2015 season.
