Probably not, but then again I don't know Xs and Os like PC, and from what I've seen so far from him and JS, I trust in them to find the very role-specific players that fit in his scheme. We had one of, if not the worst D just two years ago, and he's almost got it to a top-5 D. If Irvin puts up double digit sacks this year, everyone will know that PC knows what he's doing.Seahawks08 wrote:so screamin eagle, would you have drafted Irvin over Ingram?
FWIW, I was hoping for Chandler Jones. Bill Belichick definitely knows what he's doing, and from what I've read, they wanted BI at 27 or 31. Since we took him off the board, he moved up to get Chandler Jones.

Fucking LOVE the Russell Wilson pick. Everybody dogs on his height, but he's a winner, and one hell of an athlete. He will be a Drew Brees type guy, and play in the NFL a long time, IMO.

Re: 2012 NFL Draft
I was optimistic about the pick before, but after listening to Pete Carroll talk about the Bruce Irvin pick and how he fits... I'm jacked. From the sounds of it and seeing his game tape, I'll be shocked if he doesn't get double digit sacks this year.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Probably not, but then again I don't know Xs and Os like PC, and from what I've seen so far from him and JS, I trust in them to find the very role-specific players that fit in his scheme. Seattle, in taking Irvin, took a 3rd rounder in the 1st
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8 ... line_stack" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Panned by most observers challenging the wisdom of the choice, the Seattle Seahawks' selection of defensive end/linebacker Bruce Irvin with the 15th overall pick in Thursday night's first round, may have actually been one of the more timely moves in the early stages of the lottery.
In conversations over the past two days, The Sports Xchange has confirmed that several other franchises, including the one picking directly after Seattle, had the former West Virginia University standout rated as a solid first-round candidate and likely would have chosen the hybrid pass-rusher had he been available to them.
"He was," the general manager from one of those teams told The Sports Xchange late Friday night, "arguably the hottest player in the whole draft the past week."
That sentiment was shared by several personnel chiefs on Friday and Saturday.
There have been suggestions that Irvin, whose tale of personal redemption has become well-known over the last few days, might have even been available to the Seahawks in the second round. But given the interest from other franchises, as confirmed by The Sports Xchange, that is highly unlikely.
Among the several teams that either planned to select Irvin or had him on a "short list" of first-round candidates for consideration: the New York Jets (No. 16), Chicago (19th), Green Bay (28th) and San Francisco (No. 30).
Less than five minutes after the Seahawks plucked Irvin, with a pick that surprised many pundits, the telephone rang in the Seattle "war room." On the other end was a Jets' official, good-naturedly cursing a Seahawks' counterpart for having chosen the prospect New York planned to grab one pick later. San Francisco dispatched an assistant coach to meet with, and work out, Irvin two days before the draft. One of the teams intrigued by Irvin phoned him the week before the draft to indicate its interest in him.
The Mel Kipers of the world thought the Seahawks reached when they took pass rusher Bruce Irvin in the first round. The Rex Ryans of the world thought it was a great pick. We'll trust the Ryans on this one.
This is a case in which the draftnik industrial complex disagreed and didn't see a player's value the same as the NFL did. It also happened with Patriots second-round pick Tavon Wilson. (And we know how Bill Belichick feels about that.)

Re: 2012 NFL Draft
Interesting read - a formula for projecting the success of QBs taken in the first three rounds of the draft.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/nfl-dr ... ecast-2012" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Six years ago, Football Outsiders unveiled the college quarterback projection system known as the Lewin Career Forecast. Originally, the LCF projected the success of first- and second-round quarterbacks using just college games started and college completion percentage. Going back -- including when looking at quarterbacks from the years before the data set used to create it -- it had a strong record. After 2006, the record was not so strong. So last year, we debuted an updated version of the forecast, LCF v2.0.
The new version of the Lewin Career Forecast is built to apply only to quarterbacks chosen in the first three rounds of the draft. After that, quarterback success and failure becomes too difficult to predict. Part of the concept of the system is that scouts will do a good enough job identifying "system quarterbacks" so that those quarterbacks whose college stats are much better than their pro potential will naturally fall to the third day of the draft.
...
With that in mind, let's look at the projections for this year's quarterbacks. These numbers represent an estimate for passing DYAR in years 3-5 of a player's career. The top prospects will be above 1,200 DYAR, and you should avoid quarterbacks below zero. Let's start with the top two guys, two of the highest-rated quarterbacks in LCF history who will also be the first two picks in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Andrew Luck, Stanford: 1,749 DYAR
Robert Griffin, Baylor: 2,530 DYAR
Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M: 730 DYAR
Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State: 1,011 DYAR
Brock Osweiler, Arizona State: 248 DYAR
Russell Wilson, Wisconsin: 2,650 DYAR
Nick Foles, Arizona: 1,391 DYAR

Re: 2012 NFL Draft
I HATE it when articles use acronyms without defining them. What the cr@p is DYAR? It's clearly some type of rating (for which variables are provided), but what does the acronym stand for?
I also take issue with the variables:
Penalized for not being B(C)$?!? Well, there goes Doug Williams, who had perhaps the most incredible Super Bowl in history. There goes LeBaron again. Heck, that even eliminates HOFers Roger Staubach and Steve Young.
Penalize a QB for a coach's philosopy and the overall make up of the team?!? I don't THINK so....
Penalize a QB with outstanding mobility?!? They've just eliminated Staubach, Young, and Fran Tarkenton. Completely biased to a Dan Marino offense.

I also take issue with the variables:
"Ideal quarterback size?!?" What a joke. People like Eddie LeBaron, Pat Haden, and Doug Flutie wouldn't even get a shot under this scenario.Aaron Schatz wrote:•Career college games started, with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 48.
•Career completion rate; however, this is now a logrithmic variable. As a quarterback's completion percentage goes down, the penalty for low completion percentage gets gradually larger. As a result, the bonus for exceedingly accurate quarterbacks such as Tim Couch and Brian Brohm is smaller than the penalty for inaccurate quarterbacks such as Kyle Boller and Tarvaris Jackson.
•Difference between the quarterback's BMI and 28.0. This creates a small penalty for quarterbacks who don't exactly conform to the "ideal quarterback size."
•For quarterbacks who come out as seniors, the difference in NCAA passer rating between their junior and senior seasons. (For quarterbacks who come out as juniors or redshirt sophomores, this variable is always 5.0, which is the average increase for the seniors in our data set.)
•A binary variable that penalizes quarterbacks who don't play for a team in a BCS-qualifying conference.
•Run-pass ratio in the quarterback's final college season, with a maximum of 0.5.
•Total rushing yards in the quarterback's final college season, with a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 600

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
