Twitterview with Arizona Diamondbacks and former ODU pitcher Daniel Hudson....
SB: You were a star pitcher at Old Dominion University. So was Justin Verlander. What's the deal with ODU baseball?
DH: go monarchs! Great baseball tradition. Some really good teams in the 80s and 90s. I wasn't highly recruited out of high school and wanted to go somewhere where I would pitch from day one, and odu gave me that opportunity and I ran with it.

Richmond Times Dispatch: VCU plans to give stipend to athletes

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/sports/co ... r-1462349/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
VCU athletics director Norwood Teague said the university plans to give all of its full scholarship athletes the $2,000 stipend intended by the NCAA to further defray the cost of college attendance.

Teague said it will cost the Rams about $140,000. The money will come from VCU's NCAA tournament money and fundraising, he said.

"No matter what people's opinions and philosophies are, it's going to become a recruiting issue," he said. "We don't want to get behind in that area. We don't want (our coaches) to have a disadvantage, so we're going to be as aggressive as we can be."

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The month of May is marked off every year in Head Coach Paul Kostin's calendar as it's been nearly a guarantee to have the VCU men's tennis team playing in the NCAA Tournament. Next week, the Rams will be making their 19th NCAA Tournament appearance in Kostin's 22 years at the helm of the Black & Gold.

On Tuesday, VCU found out exactly where that appearance will begin. The Rams will make the short trek up to Charlottesville as the second seed in the pod, taking on Columbia in the first round on Saturday, May 12. The winner of that match will play either overall thirds-seed UVA or Fairleigh Dickinson in the second round.

With move to Conference USA, four ODU programs need home

The programs’ new homes could be their old homes. Old Dominion and CAA officials are discussing the possibility of those programs being affiliate members. Wrestling is the only CAA sport that has affiliate members.

“We’re going to find homes for those programs,” said ODU athletic director Wood Selig, who met with all four coaches to gauge their preferences. “It may require most of the summer for all four situations to be resolved, but we’ll get it done.”

Field hockey and women’s lacrosse face the same predicament as ODU’s basketball programs next season. CAA bylaws currently prohibit teams from competing for conference championships when their schools announce that they are leaving for another league
