As bad as the Phils are and have been, especially offensively, they are resting easy with the knowledge that they can sleepwalk through most of the year and still be able to pull it out against this division. Getting to play the likes of the Braves and soon the Nats puts our offensive woes into perspective - there's quite a few teams worse off than we are. We just need to play more NL East games - these other guys stink.
That may be an overstatement. The Nats took the season series from us last year. Anyway, who would have thought that Blanton would be the stopper at this stage?

Worley is big pimpin' too.

Halladay and Lee are the rubber arms right now.

The 7-8-9 innings should be Bastardo, Qualls, and Paps. Why Bastardo is ranked behind Contreras according to Manuel is beyond me. Then you have Joe Blanton. Fans were ridiculing him and saying he should be let go for nothing. Yeah, those fickle phillies fans don't know shit. Blanton helped win us a championship and has been one of the best back of the rotation pitchers since the phils got him. This year, he's the second best #5 behind Lance Lynn of the Cards. :thumb:

I agree that Worley looks as good as anybody.

Jayson Werth takes a dump on his old team today. Nats put a little distance on the Phils.

I wasn't listening closely, but I recall hearing on one of the Philly TV stations today that Utley's rehab is going well. Man could we use that guy.

Well-pitched game by Hamels last night, but he must've been smoking ganja when he admitted that he drilled Harper on purpose. That'll draw a suspension from Zelig. :ohno:

The Nats definitely look thus far to be the Phils best competition in the NL East. I was impressed by Harper, and disappointed in Worley & Kendrick in not going after him. He reminds me of a Chase Utley type - has a lot of time to develop into a power hitter, he's only 19, but you have to like the way he plays.

The Phils now have a 10-game stretch they need to take advantage of: Mets/Padres/Astros/Cubs.

Pretty stupid move on Coles part. Everyone knew that he hit him on purpose, but nothing would have been done if he kept his mouth shut. By openly admitting that he hit Harper on purpose he guaranteed himself a suspension.

Wonder if the Phils hit "rock bottom" with that ugly loss to the Mutts last night???

A partner and I were there. A primer on everything that's gone wrong with the Phils' season. The silent exodus after that pinch homer off Papschmear was quick and massive. There weren't even many boos. Like a stadium full of disgust. Manuel made so many managerial mistakes in one game that I lost count.

No. So far the Phils haven't hit anything this year.

Another dispiriting home loss to the Mutts. What's the under on when the home sellout streak ends?

Hmm, did I say this one night too early?

The crowd is starting to grow tired as well, smallest sellout crowd in the entire streak last night. Most left after the 7th inning & booed on their way out.

If they lose tonight they should be booed from start to finish. If the team won't wake up, maybe the fans can try to stir the pot like only Philly can.

I think the Phillies reign in the NL East is over. The starting pitching can cover for the lack of offense, but they also have no middle relief or set up men. If the starter can't go 8 or 9 innings they lose. Even if they do go 8 or 9 innings they might still lose 1-0.

I hope that I'm wrong, but this Phillies team looks bad. Had early leads in every game this series, and is about to get swept. :ohno:

This is the lowest of the low so far. Getting swept by a bad mets team is unacceptable! Looks like middle relief will have to be solved at the trade deadline this year. :ohno:

It better be solved well before then, or the Phillies will be "sellers" at the trade deadline.

The only saving grace right now is the extra wildcard spot this year. But the bullpen just keeps imploding night after night currently & we have no bench because our bench guys are starting.

If you want some good news, we're less than a month away from Chase Utley's return. Talked to some of my people last night - look for June 8th or earlier - that's something you won't get from reading a paper!!

True. I guess Amaro could bring up Aumont and see if he can be a suitable middle reliever.

And what about Howard? I feel like he's more important at this point because the phils don't have anyone who is a constant homerun threat.

Sanches and Contreras should be lined up and shot.
Kendrick should be released after a public flaying.
They're a Triple-A ball club right now.
