I hear CCU and Liberty could be headed to the CAA soon.

If it does happen and Albany and Stony Brook are next, what comes of Big South football? They'd lose their AQ.

Kennesaw St. is starting fb in 2014 That could give them 6. UNA wants to move to D-I, they're on the NW end of Alabama. Valdosta St. in Ga is a top notch D-II school, they would need some convincing to move.danefan wrote:If it does happen and Albany and Stony Brook are next, what comes of Big South football? Kennesaw starts in 2014, but do the immediately start counting towards the minimum needed for an AQ?Fresno St. Alum wrote:Kennesaw St. is starting fb in 2014 That could give them 6. Doesn't it take 2 years? Or because they're D-I already they count? I think it's 2 years. There might be a wavier for the SBC.

Good news for App St. and Georgia Southern fans that want to stay in FCS.
SBC commish said the league will either be 10/12 and add UTA or 11/12 w/ NMSU being the likely candidate if they do that. They'll probably just add UTA.

That plus the comments about wanting to bolster basketball with the new additions tells me GSU just won't be able to have the money to move up fast enough and that App. just isn't interested in the Sun Belt.Fresno St. Alum wrote:Good news for App St. and Georgia Southern fans that want to stay in FCS.

Don't think moving to the CAA really makes much sense for GSU or App. either.

Not like they actually deserve it most years....danefan wrote:If it does happen and Albany and Stony Brook are next, what comes of Big South football? They'd lose their AQ.

For a year or two to collect more of the basketball tourney checks they helped the league earn....Fresno St. Alum wrote:George Mason is staying in the CAA?

VCU to the A10 is official
ODU will probably announce after June 1.
CCU, Stony Brook, probably locks for an invite. I'm thinking Albany gets the 3rd spot over Liberty.

Re: If the CAA loses VCU & GMU who do they add to get back t
Their commish wanted to go back to 12. I think it was posted on this thread somewhere. It's the smart safer move. JMU and Delaware could end up in the MAC in the next 5 years. If the A10 finds a suitable #16 they'll ask GMU again. GMU didn't really turn down the offer A10 didn't have a #16 and didn't want 15 members so that was why GMU declined.danefan wrote:What makes you think the CAA won't just add 1 team?Fresno St. Alum wrote:VCU to the A10 is official

They could go 10/12 if they want another bball school to go w/ 2 fb schools. Or they just get 3 fb for 11/12. What about 3 fb plus YSU for fb only for 12/12?

You were the 1st to comment on it after it was posted. Yeager prefers 12
They could also add UNH for all sports along w/ SBU and CCU that gets you 10/12 since UNH is already fb only.

With all the shit going down, it's hard to remember all of these articles. Good thing I'm Rainman or I wouldn't stand a chance following D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA realignment.danefan wrote:Look at that!Fresno St. Alum wrote:http://www.delawareonline.com/article/2 ... ck_check=1

VCU will be joining the A10 in 2012 now, not 2013. They were going to be held out of the CAA tournament so they decided to leave a year early. I wonder what that will cost.

The A-10's revenue-sharing formula allows its schools to keep about 75 percent of their NCAA tournament earnings during a six-year cycle, according to a source.
The CAA divides 60 percent of its revenue equally among its 12 members. The other 40 percent goes into an "excellence pool," with shares earned for meeting specific criteria, including games won in the NCAA tournament.
VCU, largely because of its Final Four run, would have to forfeit about $5 million it has earned through 2017 if it leaves the CAA now. VCU is due a payout of about $820,000 this year if it stays in the CAA until June 30, Yeager said. The school also would have to pay the CAA an exit fee of $250,000.

Re: When the CAA loses VCU, ODU, Ga St. who do they add?
VCU moving to the A-10 gives the program the added boost it probably needs to hang onto Shaka Smart - of course, at some point they may still get priced out of the market for him, ironically if the Rams pick up at-large berths to March Madness thanks to the upgrade...

Re: When the CAA loses VCU, ODU, Ga St. who do they add?
I personally think that SBU and UNH should be the first two invited.
Albany needs to up schollies which they would be willing to, but adding SB and UNH(already in CAA with good relationships with mid-Atlantic schools) have been there for years already.(and been successful)
UNH would add the new england market
SBU would add more NY since HU dropped football
Both schools are competitive in other sports, with i know some improvements to be made in BBall
BU doesn't have a football team and isnt any better than unh at other sports or sbu for that matter
CCU brings the conference even more south, leave them to the soconn if they want out out big south.
with SB football would have another northern team
UNH would help out northen teams in basketball. I dont know why everyone is so afraid of adding northern teams. they wanna play top FCS football which CAA has. and they want to improve Bball and be in the best conference within their reach. they dont want to go to NEC or some lower league.
maybe add Albany for football when they finish stadium, but for now I say SBU and UNH for all sports
