This team is hard to watch right now - not showing a lot of heart & just pressing too much.
Some big long-term decisions need to be made in the next 60-70 days....

Re: OFFICIAL 2012 Phillies "Wait till October" thread
It's complicated. I am a lifelong Phillies fan who is on the Nats bandwagon. Truth be known, I have a Nats inaugural season banner hanging in my office. I've adopted the Caps because I love hockey, but the Flyers will always be first. Head to head I wear my orange jersey to the game. Every other game I wear red. I despise the Skins. Who cares about NBA? Nats are a different thing though. I never hated the Expos, and these aren't even really the Expos. I've lived in DC area for 19 years, the Nats have only existed 7.93henfan wrote:So you're no longer a Philadelphia fan. Noted.89Hen wrote:Still room.
Throw in that I don't like how fans in Philly have become complacent regarding the Phils. What happened to the days of lovable pessimism? They won one World Series in this "run" and the run could very well be over. The way I see it, the Phils are in decline, the Nats are up and coming.

Who's complacent?
The fanbase averaging 44,981 in last place or the fanbase averaging 27,331 in first place.

27k is the best average seen in DC in four seasons.93henfan wrote:Who's complacent?

Really, you don't like my comment and use that as an example of a bad Phillies fan???? Would I be a better fan if I advocating jettisoning Halladay? The Phils are a second half team, and they have reinforcements coming in that timeframe. Oh, and the rest of the NL East can't hit the ball either. Plenty of time - remember, last year the Braves had a victory parade for being in first place near the all-star break (well, they didn't, but the fans sure were chatty about it) and how did that turn out?89Hen wrote:27k is the best average seen in DC in four seasons.93henfan wrote:Who's complacent?

Complacent isn't really bad. I just don't ever recall hearing a Philly fan so calm and optomistic. I'm sure the WIP bunch is pretty fired up by now.GannonFan wrote:Really, you don't like my comment and use that as an example of a bad Phillies fan???? It is akin to the Caps fans down here. They started the season knowing the team would be 1 or 2 in the East.
BTW, the Nats aren't exactly healthy either. Lidge, Storen, Wang, Morse... they should improve over the year as well.

Outside of Buck and and Gaby (who we just sent down to New Orleans) the Marlins have the potential to be the best bats in the East.GannonFan wrote:Really, you don't like my comment and use that as an example of a bad Phillies fan???? Point being that the East is a crapshoot this season. The fact that the Phillies are in DEAD last at the 1/4 mark. I mean we ARE the hottest team in baseball right now. 16-5 in May.89Hen wrote:DSUrocks07 wrote:Outside of.. have the potential to be...![]()

Hamels once again bails the Phils out of deep shit with 4-1 win over 89's beloved Nats. Gotta re-sign Cole!

None that compare to Howard and Utley. I'll take a 100% healthy Phillies team over 100% healthy Nats team.eagleskins wrote:Nats have far more injuries than Phils

I'm far from a typical Philly fan - there are plenty of people up in arms right now and foaming at the mouth over the state of the Phils. But are you saying that you would prefer that to complacency? Heck, I thought one of the reasons you stay off the GoHens board is all the "sky is falling" Hens fans who not only see the glass as half empty, but in most cases the glass is fully empty, dirty, and cracked to boot!89Hen wrote:Complacent isn't really bad. Lidge injured? That's a plus for the Nats.

Hens are not the Phils. I expect the Phils fans to be irrational, reactionary idiots. That's what I love about them.GannonFan wrote:I'm far from a typical Philly fan - there are plenty of people up in arms right now and foaming at the mouth over the state of the Phils. Not really. Nats are lovable losers. Phils-Mets, most definitely a foul. Phils-Braves, you bet. But the Nats haven't won a thing. Nothing to hate about them if you're a Phillies fan. IF the Nats were to make the playoffs and the Phils didn't, then you'd have something.bluehenbillk wrote:Absolutely. There is no such thing. Unless you don't count Morse. Last year he batted .303 with 31HR and 95 RBI. Those are VERY much like Utley's best years. Utley's obviously been dinged for a couple years now, but he was healthy in 2009 and was .282 with 31/93.BlueHen86 wrote:None that compare to Howard and Utley.eagleskins wrote:Nats have far more injuries than Phils

Blanton couldn't stand prosperity last night, coughing up an early 6-0 lead. But at least the Phils gutted out a 10-9 win. Thank God for Papelbon. But I'm beginning to share bluehenbillk's pathological loathing of Qualls!

Thank god Amaro traded for pence. Critics said they gave up too much, but I shudder where the phils would be right now if they didn't have him. It seems he hits all his HRs in the clutch too.
