Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
Obviously I don't know the specifics, but if what I have read about JJ getting drunk, having sex with his ex and then regretting it, only to have her claim rape, sounds like a Duke lacrosse scenario.
IF TRUE, the U, has set themselves up in the court of public opinion to get pounded.
I just cannot imagine Pflugrad saying JJ was of upstanding moral fiber if he didn't know the truth.

if this is true, the griz finish no better than 3rd in the conference.
Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
Unless Plugrad was there he can not know what happened. He can support his player and talk about his character which he did. Either way it is a sad situation. I wish JJ the best and I hope he can put his life back together. I also hope the girl can too, what ever happened.SeattleGriz wrote:Obviously I don't know the specifics, but if what I have read about JJ getting drunk, having sex with his ex and then regretting it, only to have her claim rape, sounds like a Duke lacrosse scenario.

Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
I don't see how it could happen unless he was found guilty of the charges, or admitted to them to the U. To be expelled after only being accused is crap.
Jordan Johnson Expelled?
Yes. Unless the allegations are proven true, then I don't see how he could be legally expelled.Vidav wrote:I don't see how it could happen unless he was found guilty of the charges, or admitted to them to the U. To be expelled after only being accused is crap.

For this to happen on top of losing Nate Montana does not bode well for next season....

Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
If he's not guilty the U has more to lose than public opinion. I could see a multi million dollar suit against the U, what school is going to admit an expelled, alleged rapist? Who would hire him, could he have had a shot for a pro contract (CFL or other), could he have lost millions in potential earnings? All sorts of scenarios for a suit.....assuming he is found not guilty.SeattleGriz wrote:Obviously I don't know the specifics, but if what I have read about JJ getting drunk, having sex with his ex and then regretting it, only to have her claim rape, sounds like a Duke lacrosse scenario.

Even without Johnson, the Griz can and proabably will, win the conference. Go ahead and argue that all you want. I don't give a fuck, facts are facts.

Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
What is a FACT here is that the Griz take a major hit here on the heels of losing Nate Montana. Say what you will abut relative capabilities, losing TWO quarterbacks at nearly the same time will hurt.
Whether or not the Griz win the league title this year remains to be seen. They are ALWAYS competitive, though, and will at least be in the hunt. But even without this, there are SEVERAL teams that will have a say in things.

Remind me again how many we've won recently. You obviously failed to see my logic. It's MUCH easier to name the year we haven't won recently versus the years we've won. After about 10, most lose count.gocats wrote:Two years ago when MSU and Eastern shared the title. Short term memory loss Willie?

First off I am a Cal Poly fan. Second, I am not butt hurt. Third, I was not saying that UM will not win it, I am just saying it is not a fact that they will. UM has a lot of hurdles this year that they usually do not have. If they do win it I'll the first to congratulate them.Willie wrote:You obviously failed to see my logic. While disregarding the facts that the Griz didn't lose their AD, head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, majority of their starters on defense and their starting QB in those years. Past success does not guarantee future results. Oh, and 2010.Willie wrote:Remind me again how many we've won recently. Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
Your logic is pretty flawed Willie, because your logic assumes that it's a normal year. It's far from it. In 2010, you had lost a fair amount of starters and a new HC. It affected them. This year, the Griz have lost a whole lot more. I understand you're angry and the situation does suck, but no need for blind arrogance.Willie wrote:You obviously failed to see my logic. Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
grzfnz is correct.
UM is pandering to the "didn't do enough" crowd that is destroying Penn State right now. An immediate firing/expulsion (depending on the status of the suspect) satisfies the media binge. The problem is the ramifications of such an action when the dismissed person is proven innocent. (See Syracuse.) The result can be a massive wrongful termination/expulsion suit, not to mention the loss of (in THIS case) the guy's tuition and fees.
So, if he ends up proven guilty, UM will look like geniuses. But if he's acquitted, well, the risk is too much, IMO. In my view, you suspend the kid pending resolution of the court case, and then take appropriate action, which in this case (given his history) would be expulsion if guilty and reinstatement if acquitted.
To me, that's the ONLY way to handle it. Despite the press from the "didn't do enough" crowd, to do otherwise (what UM did in this case or to just wait and hope it goes away) is to take an unwarranted financial and PR risk.

Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
The Griz certainly could still win the conference, but it's much tougher now. Jordan Johnson was UM's best returning offensive player & now they suddenly have big questions at QB—there's Gerald Kemp, who's a bit one-dimensional, and there's a couple guys who've hardly played at all. Given how much Montana lost on defense, they'll need to be able to score early in the year.Willie wrote:Even without Johnson, the Griz can and proabably will, win the conference. Odd that there's been no official media confirmation of this story, yet, though. Being expelled is a totally unsatisfying conclusion for this event no matter the circumstances. If JJ didn't rape anyone, then he got a much harsher punishment than he deserved. If he did rape someone, then he's getting off much lighter than he deserves (I figure if he was going to be charged, he already would've been).
Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
Everyone's making the assumption he was expelled because of the rape allegation. Things might be going to hell in Missoula, but you really think there are that many stupid people at that institute of higher education that would open themselves, the university and the state up to such liability? You have to assume - and most people will never know the full story - that there were other factors involved in his expulsion. Could they have had something to do with the rape allegation? Could be. Maybe he lied, covered up, etc when questioned about it. Maybe he's a liar and cheat in school. Maybe he forgot to go to classes last semester. I don't know, and neither do you. But its almost assuredly not solely based on the rape allegation.

Re: Jordan Johnson Expelled?
This is what I'm hoping is the case, because the alternative is much stupider & has much worse consequences. Still, people in authority that aren't used to feeling big public pressure often do moronic things when it hits them.kittiekop wrote:Everyone's making the assumption he was expelled because of the rape allegation. I doubt it would be something academic, though. I figure a rumor to that effect would have cropped up on eGriz. I mean, every rumor—no matter how insane—shows up on eGriz.

While I can appreciate your efforts to give the U some credit, from what I have been reading on eGriz, and that doesn't mean crap, but it is the only information I can gather, the U IS going full knee jerk on this.kittiekop wrote:Everyone's making the assumption he was expelled because of the rape allegation. The institute of higher education, and my alma matter is packed to the gills with self hating liberals. The U is going to regret this in my opinion. I believe Engstrom is going to look very bad when this is all said and done.
