Morse has had one good year. Sure, the Nationals would like to have him healthy, but he hasn't been consistently good like Utley and Howard have been over the years.eagleskins wrote:Crazy. Morse had a far better season than those two. Storen is a top 5 closer in baseball.BlueHen86 wrote:

Crazy is thinking the Nats have been hurt by injuries more than the Phillies have.

Last year was the first year he played over 100 games in his career thanks to unlucky injuries and not getting a real shot. Sure, he has a long way to go to have Utley type career numbers, but that "one good year" was last year and was a carryover from a very good 98 games the year before. We'll see soon enough... he may be ready later this week.BlueHen86 wrote:Morse has had one good year. He's 30 years old and has had one good year out of 7 in the majors. I'm not ready to elevate him to the status of Utley or Howard who both have had several good years.89Hen wrote:Last year was the first year he played over 100 games in his career thanks to unlucky injuries and not getting a real shot. Every team has to contend with injuries throughout the course of a season. It's hard to make the argument that injuries have hurt the Nationals more than they've hurt the Phillies when the Nats are in first and the Phils are in last (tied for last at the moment). Washington won 80 games last year, this year they are on pace to win 98. The Phillies won 102, they are on pace to win 84.
A plus 18 games for Washington and a minus 18 games for the Phillies. The Phillies are missing Utley and Howard a lot more than Washington is missing Morse.

I never claimed the Nats were more injured than the Phils. I pointed out that they are not healthy either after somebody said the Phils were injured.BlueHen86 wrote:He's 30 years old and has had one good year out of 7 in the majors. Comparing last year doesn't make a whole lot of sense when other pieces have been added and subtracted from both teams. Strasburg has already won more games this year than he pitched last year and they added Gio Gonzalez who's gone 7-1. Those two additions by themselves are good for at least a +10 improvement.

That's a cop out on your part. eagleskins makes the argument that the Nationals have been hurt by injuries more than the Phillies have. I disagree with him, you jump in and bring up Morse and now you don't want to compare.89Hen wrote:I never claimed the Nats were more injured than the Phils. Time off could be good for him. He's been a dog this year, aside from a few good early starts. He's never seemed to be completely dominating since that bout of heat exhaustion in Chicago last year.Ivytalk wrote:If Halladay goes on the shelf....![]()

I would love to have what you're smoking. Since that heat exhaustion incident last year, he's had a total of 3 bad starts. And those 3 bad starts have come within the last month. Obviously, something is wrong with him and he needs time off. But when healthy, the doc is imo the best pitcher in the game.Time off could be good for him. He's been a dog this year, aside from a few good early starts. He's never seemed to be completely dominating since that bout of heat exhaustion in Chicago last year.

Utley is hurt and the Phillies are in last. Morse is hurt and the Nats are in first. Ignore all the other information that you wish, it's hard to make a reasonable argument that Morse's injury is as devasting to the Nats as Utley's is to the Phils.89Hen wrote:BlueHen86 wrote:That's a cop out on your part. eagleskins makes the argument that the Nationals have been hurt by injuries more than the Phillies have. Last year Morse had a season that looked very much like one of Utley's good years. I have no problem comparing the two. I do think trying to compare +/- from last year to this based only on two injured players on the Phils and one injured player on the Nats is silly since there are other pieces to each team's puzzle. Who knows, if Morse were in the lineup this year, they might be even further in first place. Maybe they're worse because then they don't call up Harper. Maybe it's a push.

The Phillies have a tendency to understate the length of injuries. I hope that it's just 6 - 8 weeks (or less), but if the Phils are true to form it could be longer.DSUrocks07 wrote:6-8 weeksIvytalk wrote:If Halladay goes on the shelf....![]()

Don't worry, everyone will be back in August when the Phillies are 15 games behind the 2nd WC.The Phillies have a tendency to understate the length of injuries. I hope that it's just 6 - 8 weeks (or less), but if the Phils are true to form it could be longer.

Fucking Blanton has now given up 9 homers in his last 13+ innings!
Including one to the Mets' rookie pitcher last night.

eagleskins and I were arguing about which team has been hurt the most by injuries. You jump into the discussion. When I reiterate my point you resort to name calling.89Hen wrote:BlueHen86 wrote:

I guess when you can't make a reasonable argument, name calling is all you have left.

phils take 2 out of 3 from the mets. Seriously, if the phils make the playoffs, Manuel has to be manager of the year.

Lol @ the NL East for failing to put their foot on the Phils' neck.

Not sure where this thing turned, but I don't think I called anyone a name and me showing you how Morse's year last year was absolultely on par with one of Utley's best years is a pretty reasonable arguement IMO. If you want private conversations, maybe you should use PM's or e-mail.BlueHen86 wrote:eagleskins and I were arguing about which team has been hurt the most by injuries. You jump into the discussion. I don't disagree that Morse had a great season. I think we were having two different discussions.

Contreras out for the remainder of the season. Some of you may be rejoicing about that news.
