Kahne and Gordon continue to disappoint.
Gordon cannot catch a break this year. Dude must feel like he's a demolition derby driver.

I was pulling for K. Busch yesterday. DAMN it would have been awesome if he had won. The interviews would have been one for the ages.

Gordon continues to get effed more like it. He's so clear of that accident and 55 comes out of nowhere to end his day (not 55's fault).93henfan wrote:Kahne and Gordon continue to disappoint.

Yeah, not a lot the 24 can do about this year. Just a lot of bad luck all around.
Still time to get it turned around but not getting my hopes up

The 24 can get wrecked every race and it wouldn't bother me one bit.

Re: NASCAR 2012
That wasn't the #55 that hit Gordon in the 1st Big One. #55 was driven by Michael Waltrip. Mark Martin is driving the #55 MWR car for most of the season, but Waltrip is signed on to drive it for 7 races, including this past weekend at Talladega. He was involved in the 2nd Big One with 4 laps to go.89Hen wrote:Gordon continues to get effed more like it. #56 Martin Truex was the one who hit Gordon. Truex drives the other MWR car. Wreck is at about the 2 min mark.

At the Monster Mile. Race day.
I feel dirty. I just drank a Bud Light Lime. It was free, so I couldn't turn it down.
Anyway, I feel a disturbance in the force, so I'm going to go ahead and call it. Dale Jr. breaks the streak and wins today.

It's been a while since I've been to a NASCAR race, but I have seen Jr. win at Dover. It would be nice to see him do it again.
Re: NASCAR 2012
He's done it twice before: a Busch series race and then the first Cup race after 9/11. I saw the second one.BlueHen86 wrote:Enjoy the race, you have nice weather for it.93henfan wrote:At the Monster Mile. Race day.

Re: NASCAR 2012
I was a Jerry Nadeau fan. Jerry finished 2nd the day Jr won. Jerry started near the back (around 40th I think), picked off about 30 cars then got stuck behind a wreck and lost about 10 spots. He then picked off another 20 cars and ended up battling Jr for the win. Jr was too fast at the end.93henfan wrote:He's done it twice before: a Busch series race and then the first Cup race after 9/11. I saw the second one.BlueHen86 wrote:

I would love for Jr. to get off the snide today. I wish I could see a race but I'm always working in the hotel on Race Weekend.
Side note: rumors are going around that if the lack of attendance trend continues that Dover might end up losing one of their race dates.

Dover would be at risk regardless, because it's one of only three tracks (Indy and Pocono the others) that aren't part of the two major conglomerates.DSUrocks07 wrote:I would love for Jr. to get off the snide today. I wish I could see a race but I'm always working in the hotel on Race Weekend.

If they were to be honest, there can't be much more than 50k here today, in a 140k facility.

I guess "selling" would be a better word than losing. And rumors were that there were barely 60k+ tickets sold. Also there was a "seat-widening" project done late last year that made the seats go from 18" to 22", lowering the capacity to 120k.93henfan wrote:Dover would be at risk regardless, because it's one of only three tracks (Indy and Pocono the others) that aren't part of the two major conglomerates.DSUrocks07 wrote:I would love for Jr. to get off the snide today. I didn't see the race but only 50k?? Last time I went to Dover was back in the mid-90's & it was packed to the gills then.

Dover filled every seat up until about four years ago when the economy tanked and it's been a sharp decline ever since.bluehenbillk wrote:Really???!!!93henfan wrote:

I've been on record many times here. I think it's a combo of:
Bad economy
The Chase format
The domination of Jimmie Johnson
The death of Dale Earnhardt Sr.
The failures of Dale Earnhardt Jr., the heir apparent
The NASCAR movement westward and abandonment of its Southern core/slashing of races in the Carolinas
Really, really boring racing (again, due to Chase format) and way too many commercials on the TV broadcasts
I could go on...

I wasn't aware of the seat-widening, and it hasn't made it to my section yet, but you are correct. Here is the story. Looks like the seating capacity will be reduced by about 30,000 seats:DSUrocks07 wrote:I guess "selling" would be a better word than losing. And rumors were that there were barely 60k+ tickets sold. We could all go on. Ever since they signed the national TV contracts with FOX and NBC everything they have done was wrong but I'll add 3.93henfan wrote:Dover filled every seat up until about four years ago when the economy tanked and it's been a sharp decline ever since.bluehenbillk wrote:

Eliminating the last 100 laps at Dover. It was that driver and equipment got tired and "things happened". The NASCAR solution was to eliminate those last 100 laps resulting in total boredom.
Repaving Bristol and changing the banking. The result was 500 laps of mind-numbing boredom.
The emphasis of teammates. Does anyone think that Bobby Allison would give a lap back to Richard Petty? Not likely. But with so many teammates that was happening until the caution rules were changed so they created the "lucky dog" so someone would get a lap back. I would prefer 43 independent contractors competing against one another for blood and glory.
Bill France always referred to the races as "The Show". They need to get back to that as opposed to the clean corporate look they have adopted.

So the seat-widening "reduces" capacity to 113,000? Still 30,000 too many IMHO.93henfan wrote:I wasn't aware of the seat-widening, and it hasn't made it to my section yet, but you are correct. Here is the story. Looks like the seating capacity will be reduced by about 30,000 seats:DSUrocks07 wrote:
