Why is Youngstown ranked so high? They finished completely out of most (if not all) top 25 rankings at the end of the season last year, but they've seemingly leaped 20 or 30 programs in the course of 5 months.

Explanations please?

I'm sure all crimes go reported at UNC, as well ...and UNC has been an embarassment (on and off the field) to the conference since joining I notice you had no smart ass reply concerning "the stabbing" that garnered national attention I honestly don't know how the competition, at UNC, is so fierce that stabbing another player is neccessary to move up the depth chart

There is a huge difference between charged and accused, meat-head! Btw, I do think it's a big deal. This thread was derailed by a couple of knotheads (Herky and BadNewsBears) that felt the need to bring this into an FCS Preview thread. There are threads aplenty that are dedicated to the troubles at UofM.

They return almost everyone IIRC, finished just outside the top 25, beat NDSU, and gave UNI all they could handle.

Not sure--maybe the people that wrote the poll were YSU grads--maybe YSU has their whole offense back as well as some sorely needed new defensive players and coach--maybe its because they realized the MVFC was underrated with YSU being the only team to defeat National Champs NDSU(in Fargo) last year.Who really knows but one thing is for certain only time will tell.Polls are polls--back in 1995 most preseason polls ranked YSU #1 and they ended that season with no !-AA victories.

Not sure if we are worthy of the #9 ranking just yet, but we return every starter on an offense which finished in the top 3 in almost every single category last year. Defensively, we return 3 CB's that were forced to redshirt due to injuries last year. Strengthened our LB corps and have a new defensive coordinator that knows how to stop offenses in Joe Tresey. I am worried about our DL, but if our D can hold teams to under 20 points per game this year, we'll be every bit of a top ten team this year.

My opinion is NDSU didn't get respect being voted #3 in the poll. I didn't day they should be #1, did I? I know SHSU is bring a lot back but their schedule is going to be a lot tougher this year and they have 3 home games. Their best shot is winning their conference. I do think that NDSU should be ahead of GSU in the first poll. NDSU's defense will be solid once again this year and that should have them in the first two spots.

Just to be clear, you are not saying that NDSU 'should' be ranked #1, but you are saying that they should be ranked ahead of SHSU and GSU. Ok, got ya.

Add their top reciever who missed all of last season and the return of the top RB in the Big Sky last year Zach Baumann and you have a dynamic offense and a stingy defense. It is gonna be interesting. They open at ASU followed by UNLV so we should have a pretty good idea before they travel to Montanna in week 4.

NAU could beat any team in the Big Sky most years, they consistently give MSU a hard time and have had UM on the ropes a couple of times in the last few years. However they are a .500 team waiting to happen...its a Sourers specialty.

They can get up for the big games but struggle to put a full season together and make a run a playoff spot. The one year they did make they waxed #1 McNeese State in the playoffs.

Can't really overlook any team in the Big Sky.

Seems like that's the expectation every season...

I don't know about that (I picked them 3-8 last year). Looking at their schedule, they should win an absolute minimum of 5 games and 9 of their games are no worse than toss-ups (all except ASU and Montana).
