Agreed. Both dems and republicans have been practicing reaganomics for 30 years now. Grover is one of the most powerful players in politics, Steven Moore sits on the WSJ editorial board, Arthur Laffer was on Maher just last week. How many more years before we can expect that tide to rise?

A lot of reaganomics does work, that's why people will use it. There's no secret that lower taxes are generally better in the long run and that reducing or limiting government spending is good as well. The trick is knowing how far to take it, i.e. how low should taxes be and how limited should government be in spending or regulation. But the direction of the idea is certainly justified and valid. And conversely, making sure you don't do one (say lower taxes) while not doing the other (say limiting government spending). You can do that in a very short time frame, but doing that longer than that is disastrous, obviously. Unfortunately, we've been doing that for too long now since W did that and Obama is doubling down on that now.

I get what you're saying here and don't necessarily disagree. But a country's overall happiness is based on its standard of living and not on its tax rates.

Is our overall happiness/standard of living improved since 1980? I think the answer to that is resoundingly yes. I admit I was a carefree kid in the mid to late '70's and I had a great childhood, but I'll take living now for all the advances and improvements we've had in virtually every field over what we had back then. I do still have my old Sears Teleplay (the Sears brand Atari 2600) but I'm not really stuck yearning for the past.

Is our overall happiness/standard of living improved since 1980? I think the answer to that is resoundingly yes. Depends on how you measure happiness/standard of living. Many people who lived through the 50's describe it as pinnacle of Americana, yet rates were much higher. Or buddhist monks...ridiculously happy. Or Cleets...

Report: Business leaders upbeat about Wisconsin 95 percent say state headed in right direction Richard Moore Investigative Reporter

More than 60 percent of business leaders responding to an annual survey conducted by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce say they plan to hire workers in the next six months. Only a small number say they plan layoffs.

According to the survey of 182 businesses, 62 percent said they will bolster their work force numbers; only 2 percent said they will downsize. That compares to only 44 percent in December who said they will hire within six months, and 53 percent a year earlier.

According to the WMC - the state's largest business association representing more than 3,500 employers - chief executive officers in Wisconsin appear buoyed by an improved business climate.

In other findings in the Economic Outlook Survey, which was conducted in early May, 51 percent of WMC members indicated they will expand their operations in the Badger state in the next two years. That's the highest percentage in more than a decade, dwarfing the 18 percent who said they will expand in another state or nation during the same period.

Kurt R. Bauer, WMC president and CEO, said an "astounding" 95 percent of the CEOs surveyed said the state is headed in the right direction.

"Wisconsin businesses are creating jobs close to home for our families," Bauer said. "Our business climate is improving. Executives are confident about the direction of our state and they are investing in their businesses, creating jobs and raising wages. Our state is headed in the right direction."

Sooner rather than later

Bauer said some of the job creation will take place in the next six months, with 62 percent reporting they will create jobs through the end of the year.
