That sucks. Was going to be my excuse for not doing something the Goddess wanted me to do this weekend.

CNN's web page seems conflicted. They have a pic talking about the leg injury, then a story later down the page about why I'll Have Another should win the Belmont.

Gotta figure this is all about the breeding dollars for this horse. Even a million bucks isn't worth the chance that the horse could have a catastrophic breakdown and have to be euthanized on the track.

Saw a story about this on ESPN injuries have played a major role in no triple crowns since the 70's.bluehenbillk wrote:I'll Have Another pulls out of Belmont w Leg injury.

Re: No Triple Crown Again
Was there really a reason to turn it on anyway? Does anyone really care about a three year old horse that they hadn't heard of 2 months ago. The triple crown is the most over rated, over hyped media sprts creation ever. I'm sure that attending the races is cool, but as far as TV goes there is nothing that separates the triple crown from any other horse race except hype.dbackjon wrote:93henfan wrote:

At first, they were just pulling him out of the race, apparently hoping to rest him and race him later. Apparently, something changed, and now they're flat-out retiring him. That's sad, but 93 hit the nail on the head. Too much of a risk, even for a cool M.bluehenbillk wrote:I'll Have Another pulls out of Belmont w Leg injury.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

The sport sucks. This is the most important event of the year for horse racing and the horse isn't going to run because of inflamation. Could you imagine Tom Brady missing a Super Bowl because his knee puffed up?SuperHornet wrote:At first, they were just pulling him out of the race, apparently hoping to rest him and race him later. "Hey Tom, great job winning in the division and AFC championship games, but we're gonna sit you for the Superbowl because your knee looks puffy and it's more important that you fuck Giselle than it is for you to compete in the biggest game of the year."
I guess it's more important to breed a brittle horse than it is to compete in the most important venue.

Re: No Triple Crown Again
There's a HUGE difference there, 86. Brady is a human with a (supposedly) functional brain, so theoretically he could sign a waiver.
But we're not talking about a human here. We're talking about a non-human animal that can't make that sort of rational decision. Forcing it to do something that could endanger its life is a form of abuse. If the ASPCA got wind of that (not to mention the trainers guild, whatever they call it), the dude could be facing both jail time and a lifetime ban from horseracing. You HAVE to look out for the welfare of the animal. Yes, the $$ to be had in stud fees enter into it as well. But ultimately, it's the welfare of the animal. The risk is just too great.
You're trying to compare apples and oranges, and THAT never works....

Exactly. It's an animal. Race it and if it falters, so be it. The investment has already paid off more than they could have imagined and I'm sure they've gotten more than enough of its sperm

Not apples and oranges. Any sporting event puts an athlete at risk. Any race puts a horse at risk. Ever hear of Barbaro?SuperHornet wrote:There's a HUGE difference there, 86. Brady is a human with a (supposedly) functional brain, so theoretically he could sign a waiver.

The horse would probably prefer to run in meadow and eat grass. You're forcing it to run on a track, carrying a human, and if it hurts it leg, you'll shoot it. Yeah, you're really looking out for the welfare of the animal.

Oh no, you have to look out for the wlefare of the animal. It's legs must be 100% healthy before you put a man with a whip on it's back and make it run in a circle with other man laden horses.MSUDuo wrote:Exactly. It's an animal. I'd rather watch a rerun of Worlds Strongest Man. At least they didn't shoot Mark Philippi when he flipped a car onto himself in 1998.

Dude. Speaking of euthanization, the jockey that placed should be taken out back for giving up the rail like that. WTF?

That's the Sport of Kings, baby! We'll take what we can get. Paynter impressed me, actually. He almost went wire to wire in the longest leg of the TC.93henfan wrote:Underachiever.Ivytalk wrote:YESSS! UNION RAGS!!!![]()

Chalk another win up for Chester County, PA - the racing capital of the world. Union Rags currently trains about 10-15 minutes from my house.

what makes you question the functionality of Tom Brady's brain?SuperHornet wrote:There's a HUGE difference there, 86. Brady is a human with a (supposedly) functional brain, so theoretically he could sign a waiver.
