Sirens win BIG!!!!!

Post by SuperHornet »

In a game they were supposed to lose handily, the Sacramento Sirens trounced the previously undefeated Phoenix Phantomz 62-22. This gives Sac the #2 seed in the Western Conference; Sac will host the #4 Seattle Majestics (6-2) 30 JUN. PHX gets the #3 seed and will travel to the #1 Wisconsin Warriors. Yeah, I know that's messing up the seeds; that's the IWFL's regionalization working for you.

The game actually started out as a PHX romp, in that they opened the scoring 14-0 in the first quarter. I wouldn't know for sure, though, because I arrived late (more on THAT later). I was asked to hold the chains, so they got me down on the PHX sideline as soon as I got there; by that time, it was near the end of the first quarter, PHX up 14-7. From then on, it was just about all Sac.

Between the 70-yard pick six by a Siren in her first football game EVER to a TD practically GIFTWRAPPED to Sac by the Phantomz. (As the clock passed the 1-min mark left in the first half, the PHX coach took an intentional delay of game on fourth down despite the fact that they were deep in their own territory. Halfback Julie Shockley took the ensuing punt back inside their ten, and FB Kristy Milanese (I think) took it in on the next play with less than ten seconds left in the half. There was a rather large penalty discrepancy in the Sirens' favor; this led to the ejection of the PHX coach late in the game. The game was delayed almost ten minutes while he took his sweet time departing the stadium.

But it wasn't all glory for the Sirens. Early in the game (possibly even before I got there), star halfback Ashlee Sharp hurt her shoulder and was out for the rest of the game. I don't think the Sirens had any other serious injuries, though. The Phantomz (amazingly given that they're from Phoenix) seemed to have terrible issues with the over-100-degree heat; they had other injuries, too. Several Phantomz appeared to limp on and off the field, but kept going anyway.

Now for why I was late. I shouldn't have been late, and would NOT have been late if I had not shredded my port bow tire just north of Galt. I had to have a friend come help me change it. He had to use HIS tire tools to access my spare because my tools were broken. That's just great. There's about $400 out the window after my tuition refund gets here; I figure that I'll be safer replacing all of them rather than just the one that blew. Fortunately, I got a temp job in shipping/receiving at an ultrasound machine repair facility this past week to help pay bills....

Anyways, it's time for the Sirens to fly! Time to get back to Round Rock and beat the Eastern Conference for the title!

The season is 8 games spread over about 10 weeks or so.

You wouldn't have asked that last question about the USFL, so why ask it here?
