Since some racist names for Asians have been used in this thread, it's probably a good idea that no one has pissed off China yet!

The reason I got "pissy" about the use of "Japs" was the context.

If I started a thread about the NBA draft (which I would never, ever actually do), made a couple of comments on it, linked to an ESPN article, and titled the thread...

"Nigger taken first in NBA draft"...

Wouldn't even the anti-PC crowd see how that could be offensive?

Context is as important as the word itself.

I have no doubt that Grizzaholic didn't mean that word in an offensive way.

But any Japanese-American(s) reading e-Griz would have been offended, nonetheless.

I might sound like a hypocrite here, but whatever!??! I don't overlook or support any type of racism! It's just not fair to those on the receiving end. But, IMO, some of it is still pretty funny!

I've spent a lot of years in Southeast Asia as a white American, and more times than not, I was on the receiving end. At the time, I was young and stupid and it didn't bother me that much. Now, I'm old, and arguably a bit less stupid...and with what I went through, it still doesn't bother me!

Back in the day, one of my favorite terms of endearment for Asians was "rubberheads".

With all that said, isn't it about time for a nice nigger work song?!!?
