Most likely FCS vs FBS upsets
Re: Most likely FCS vs FBS upsets
While I believe NDSU has enough talent to beat CSU and potentially beat them badly, I definitely don't think that it is a for sure thing. We still have to travel out there and they still have way more schollies than us, plus its early season when teams are still kind of gelling. Although if the Bison don't turn the ball over they should get the W, conversely if they turn the ball over a couple times or more we will lose.

I think Eastern Washington, Indiana State, and NDSU will all get it done this year. New Hampshire is an interesting possibility. I'm still debating whether Stony Brook will beat Army. How much option does Stony Brook face in conference, if any?

UNI is good, but that game will probably be more like 42-14.clenz wrote:I'm liking UNI @ Iowa this year.........

I am personally looking forward to both Cal Poly @ Wyoming (slim chance) and SUU @ Cal (slim chance).

Yep....just like 09 when a UNI team that missed the playoffs lost by a blocked last second field goal against the Iowa team that steamrolled GT in the Orange Bowl....expandspanos wrote:UNI is good, but that game will probably be more like 42-14.clenz wrote:I'm liking UNI @ Iowa this year.........

Iowa will be very mediocre this year.

Y.S.U. over Pitt if the defense improves a little. The offense should have no problem scoring on them.

What do you expect the score to be, just for the record?
I don't mean any slight to UNI, Iowa is just one of the best teams in the country, and I just have a feeling it won't be like last time you guys played.

That's what we constantly hear each year from all the Hawkeye fans around here. And yet more often than not, they end up going 6-6, 7-5, maybe 8-4, losing to teams like Northwestern and/or Minnesota.expandspanos wrote:I don't mean any slight to UNI, Iowa is just one of the best teams in the country, and I just have a feeling it won't be like last time you guys played.
I'm not saying that UNI will definitely win, or even guaranteeing that it will be a close game at the end. But I don't think a Panther win is unfathomable. And claims of the Hawks being "one of the best teams in the country" just makes me laugh, in the same vein as when Chicago Cubs fans say that they're going to win it all.

I'll throw it out there. Kansas doesn't exactly seem like a goliath for the Rabbits to beat. Charlie just won't have the 'Hawks turned around in time for this.

Oh....you're serious.....
Jay already touched on this but I'll expand a little more...
Iowa fans have a very strong arrogance about them. They view their football program in the same light as Michigan, USC, Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, etc.... That leads fans who don't live in the area to start believing the hype. It also builds hype when around draft time all the stations focus on the fact that Iowa has produced more pro players than any school the last decade or so. Which is cool, but those players almost never produce records worth much. Their fans on are par with Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State, etc.. fans with how annoying, cocky, douchey, etc...
The last 7 years Iowa's records and bad losses are...I'll add "good wins" as well:
11: 7-6 (6-6 FBS)- lost to Minnesota (who was CRUSHED by NDSU) and Iowa State....good win - Michigan
10: 8-5 (7-5 FBS) - lost to Minnesota, Arizona, and Northwestern...good win - Michigan State
09: 11-2 (10-2 FBS)- very good year...still lost to Northwestern - (remember this is this the year UNI lost by 1 and missed the playoffs)..7 of these wins were against FBS/Very low FBS or just plain terrible FBS teams.
08: 9-4 (8-4 FBS) - lost to Northwestern and Pittsburgh...no real "impressive" win
07: 6-6 - lost to Iowa State, Indiana, Purdue, Western Michigan
06: 6-7 (5-7 FBS) - lost too Indiana, Northwestern, and Minnesota
05: 7-6 (6-6 FBS) - lost too Iowa State and Northwestern
Does that look like the record of one of the best teams in the nation?
They are an average FBS team.
It could be different than the last time we played....but even most of the Iowa fans expect this to be a 7 win year.
UNI returns everyone on offense except our QB - and the QB we will start will be a better "fit" for the style offense our OC likes to play. 4 of 5 offensive lineman that are B1G size (average 6'6 315ish). Return every single RB. Return 6 of 9 pass recievers. Return the entire secondary who are now all multi-year starters. The only question for UNI going into the season is the front 7 on defense, and that's really only who will start as UNI's defense is pretty much always one of the best in the country.
My prediction? It will be a single digit game no matter who wins.....I firmly believe that. I don't expect a UNI win, but I'll be less than shocked to see one. UNI players aren't intimidated by Kinnick, or Iowa. There are players on the team yet from that 09 game...This game will be taken VERY seriously by UNI. Hell, Kinnick won't be the most impressive venue UNI plays in this year - two weeks prior UNI will be in Madison. Any "big time" cobwebs will be worn off after that game.

Kansas lost their starting safety and starting running back that I know for sure since Charlie got there....Theee Catrabbit wrote:I'll throw it out there. Kansas doesn't exactly seem like a goliath for the Rabbits to beat. Charlie just won't have the 'Hawks turned around in time for this.
I dn't know how good SDSU is going to be, but it could happen.

If UNI doesn't win the NC they will have seriously underachieved.
Of course if the game were played on paper they would have more NCs than the rest of FCS combined.

Very little since VMI abandoned it a couple of years back. Most of the Big South teams either operate out of spread or pro-style offenses.rkwittem wrote:I'm still debating whether Stony Brook will beat Army. How much option does Stony Brook face in conference, if any?
