Does anyone realize how much power the NCAA is gaining through all of this?
The ironic thing is that one day down the road WHEN the BCS schools split from the NCAA, this will be used as part of their argument for doing so. And that group will include Penn State...

ESPN is reporting now that Penn State has told the NCAA that it will accept any penalties without a legal challenge. Apparently, PSU does not yet know what the penalties will be.BDKJMU wrote:∞∞∞ wrote:From what I read, PSU officials and Emmert met this week to discuss the sanctions and PSU agreed to them.No way are both rumors totally true. The president, Rod Erickson has vowed to de-emphasize athletics (not just football) and accepting any sanctions is going to help him do it.

4 year Bowl ban
40 scholarships lost over 4 years
$60 mil penalty - money goes to endow victims of child sex abuse
14 seasons of football ('98-'11) all wins vacated (Grambling clause)
Transfer waiver for all current players
5 years probation

Re: NCAA sanctions against Penn State
The sanctions are in:
-$60 million fine along with gross revenue of football program, directed towards children's charities (possibly relating to sexual abuse)
-Four year bowl ban, vacate ALL wins from 1998-2011
-Players can transfer immediately without any penalty regardless of Division of destination school
-Reduction of 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for four years
-Five years probation
-Individual sanctions on people involved, and other corrective measures

All the Ivy League needs to become relevant again is to diversify its OOC schedule.

What is really the point of vacating the past wins? Really? I'm not sure why the Football team should be punished for the actions of the ball coach. The university as a whole should be punished.
On the bright side, Coastals 2008 season just improved.

The point of vacating wins was to wipe Joe Pa's name out of the record books.

So......I'm confused to an extent...Does PSU only have 15 football scholarships right now?

With 15 scholarships a year they made PSU a Patriot League team.
I think the NCAA did a great job myself - kudos boys.

That's stupid. You can't change the past. And when people, 50 years from now, wonder why PSU had a "losing streak" that spanned 12 years, JoPa will be brought up. That doesn't make sense to me. Let's just put an * by his name and in the footnotes say, "Molesting Fag Enabler."FargoBison wrote:The point of vacating wins was to wipe Joe Pa's name out of the record books.

Ironic twist: PSU's starting QB the last time they "won" a game: Mike McQueary

You are wrong. It IS a sports issue. It was centered around the football program. Not sure why anyone doesn't think it ISN"t a sports issue.SuperHornet wrote:Exactly. If that tweet is even HALF true, the NCAA is DEFINITELY overstepping their bounds. IMO, this is a LE issue, NOT a sports issue. Pedophiles are neither gay nor straight - it is statements like this that are collateral damage.
If he had been raping 10 year old girls, would you say Molesting breeder Enabler?
Back to post - Joe and his family are very arrogant - they wanted the wins record at all cost. It is appropriate to take that from him. While JOe is in hell now, his family gets to suffer some from this, as they should.
