At least Cliff Lee celebrated not getting traded (yet) by whitewashing 89's beloved Nats and the "invincible" Strasburg, 8-0.

Strasburg is the #3 pitcher on the Nats and they rested Zimmerman and LaRoche.Ivytalk wrote:At least Cliff Lee celebrated not getting traded (yet) by whitewashing 89's beloved Nats and the "invincible" Strasburg, 8-0.

Strasburg is starting to look like the inning count has got inside his head lately, that's a big "uh-oh" for the Beltway boys.

Re: OFFICIAL 2012 Phillies "Wait till October" thread
I wouldn't quite go that far - he's had some real clunkers come playoff time (the NLDS against STL comes to mind for sure, the WS against the Yanks, and the Milwaukee series in '08) but he's had some good ones too. The Phils don't even get out of the NLDS in '09 agains the Rockies without Howard hitting like he did and he did almost the same against the Dodgers that year to win the pennant.Ivytalk wrote:No, Ty Wigginton.Seahawks08 wrote:
No, just no. The phils are going to try and win it all next year and you want them to trade their only source of power? As of right now, he's the only player who is a lock for 25+ HRs as long as he stays healthy. And the only free agent who has his power is josh hamilton and how much do you think he's going to command?
The next question that needs to be asked, who the hell is our 3B for next year? Mike Fontenot? He and Fontenot are good for 50 errors a year between 'em. Easy.
And Howard's power numbers have been in decline for several years, injuries or no. He still has no sense of the strike zone, and he is -- as Steinbrenner once called Dave Winfield -- "Mr. May" who never comes through at playoff time.

We never said "which" October the 2012 Phils were waiting for, so now that we're waiting for 2013's October it's still valid.dbackjon wrote:So exactly what are the Phillies waiting till October to do?

Re: OFFICIAL 2012 Phillies "Wait till October" thread
I'm curious now, if you want to trade him so bad, how are you going to justify the move to the fans? First off, who would be the replacement? Second, I hope you know no team will trade for him and take all the money, so even without him, the Phils will be paying big bucks for the rest of his contract. And finally, there's a TV deal coming up and with no offense and utley leaving after next year, how are you going to justify a large deal? From what it seems, you want a true fire sale and start over, which would put the team in rebuilding mode where they wouldn't be competitve for who knows how long. RIght now, NOT AN OPTION!And Howard's power numbers have been in decline for several years, injuries or no. Re: OFFICIAL 2012 Phillies "Wait till October" thread
You're taking a facetious remark far too seriously. You are correct that there is no other power hitter currently available. But you haven't contradicted my points that RH is a whiff machine who has no clue about the strike zone and fails in the clutch far too often. And that was before he got injured. So there.Seahawks08 wrote:I'm curious now, if you want to trade him so bad, how are you going to justify the move to the fans? First off, who would be the replacement? And the Nats' pre-implosion revisionist hsitory begins! He is the greatest pitching prospect of the last generation and he is currently the 3rd best pitcher in the Nats rotation. You really think a loss to the Phils last night was the start of the downturn of the Nats?Ivytalk wrote:And the Nats' pre-implosion revisionist hsitory begins! The Braves will win the divison this year. Bank on it.
Taking the family tonight to see them rebound.

Jesus Christ. I understand you are a Nats fan, but now you're going to root for them over the Phillies?89Hen wrote:He is the greatest pitching prospect of the last generation and he is currently the 3rd best pitcher in the Nats rotation. If you guys (and by that I mean bluehenbillk) are going to start a coronation thread in March every year, you better expect some flak when the shit hits the fan by June.93henfan wrote:Cool. Re: OFFICIAL 2012 Phillies "Wait till October" thread
LOL damnit I tried to get you to bite, but alas I misjudged the situation! I was hoping for a what if scenario (which I always find fun) with who would play where. But I guess that will have to wait until the offseason. You're taking a facetious remark far too seriously. You are correct that there is no other power hitter currently available. But you haven't contradicted my points that RH is a whiff machine who has no clue about the strike zone and fails in the clutch far too often. And that was before he got injured. So there.
Make that 2 losses now...Taking the family tonight to see them rebound.

What was wrong to expect - won 102 games last year - best in baseball. Most Philly fans are big boys, we can take whatever is dished. The little girlies turnover to be Nats fans.....Grizalltheway wrote:If you guys (and by that I mean bluehenbillk) are going to start a coronation thread in March every year, you better expect some flak when the **** hits the fan by June.93henfan wrote:

And how about that Nate Schierholtz!!!!!
Helluva Phillies debut!
Announced crowd of just 23,777 last night at Nats Park last night, and many Phillies fans were there. Has the air gone out of the fans' balloon? Is an implosion now anticipated? Is Congressional recess the problem? Everyone gone to the beach?

Good for them, but the Yankees are running at 85% capacity. Could have gone with the Giants. They are the only other team at or close to 100%. FWIW, the Cubs are at 90%... I'd rather be a Nats fan.bluehenbillk wrote:yea and the Phillies, Yankees & Red Sox manage to be full all summer...
