Last hurrah in the Olympics, or last overall? Don't think he's planning on retiring just yet.Seahawks08 wrote:Well at least for this Olympic finals, tennis has some meaning. This is the last hurrah for the Fed and it's the only thing he hasn't won. Looking forward to the Murray/Fed final!

Gotcha. I agree with that (he'll be 35), but I think he'll take the open this year, and probably add another Wimbledon or Aussie before he's done.Seahawks08 wrote:For the Olympics. I can't see him winning gold 4 years from now.

What's up with number 11? Did they make him change the oil on the team bus before the game?tampajag wrote:93henfan wrote:

I know, it's just the shadow from the rim, but it looks funny.

Yeah, when I woke up (7 am WC(b) time) it was 6-2, 2-0 so I went back to sleep. Sucks, but at least Murray was able to win something since he can't seal the deal in a slam event.Seahawks08 wrote:The Fed got owned. Too bad, it was the only thing left for him.

Re: Olympics
Apparently, track just found the equivalent to the badminton throwing of a match. this guy had won his semis of the 1500 (there are allegations that he is doping or on drugs but that's another story - there were 2 semis with top 5 in each plus next 2 fastest qualifying for the finals) and was entered in the 800. In order to make sure he was fit enough for the 1500, he stepped off the track 200 meters into the 800 meter race. He has now been thrown out of the olympics. Track rules bascially say if you are entered in a race and you don't give an honest effort, you can no longer participate in any event.GannonFan wrote:I saw it already, and like I said, the problem was they threw the games so poorly. If they made it look better while trying to lose they would've been fine. And it is like the running and swimming heats - just like in those events, in badmiton the prelims are the round robin, and once you qualify, then there really is no credit for wins and losses, other than seeding. In the swimming and running, once you qualify for the next round, there really is no credit for wins and losses other than lane placement. Again, the biggest issue is that they looked so terrible in throwing the match, not that they didn't want to win.tribe_pride wrote:
Watch this video. Any of us would have easily won this badminton match. It was an absolute joke - worse than anything you have ever seen. The whole part was bad but especially watch :28 through 1:10.

When the teams sit their stars, the guys on the court are actually trying. Not so much in the badminton match in the video above. In swimming and track preliminary heats, the idea is not to win the race but to be in the top XX finishers. There is no credit for win or loss given in the heats.
The equivelent in basketball would be for the players on the court for the whole game taking all 24 second shot clock violations, throwing the ball 10 feet over their teammates heads out of bounds and for good measure, throwing the ball off the backboard at 100 mph so it seems like you are taking a shot even though there is no chance it would go in.

Re: Olympics
Wow - did the Canadian women's soccer team ever get screwed over by the ref - awarding a free kick to the USA inside the area on a call pretty much never seen ever at this level of competition (GK holding the ball for more than 6 seconds), immediately followed by a PK when the Canadians were called for a hand ball...

Gold & Silver clinched for USA women's beach volleyball. It's always a nice sight to see women in tight bottoms hugging & rolling around with each other in the sand.
