AT VANDERBILT:
Played as a member of the Commodores special team unit in 2011...Was one of five true freshman to play in Vanderbilt's secondary as a freshman in 2010....As a true freshman, played in 10 of 12 games playing with special teams and as a reserve safety with four solo tackles...
HIGH SCHOOL:
Simmons was a two-year starter at safety at South County High School for Pete Bendorf...Helped the Stallions to a 7-5 record and second round of the Division 6-AAA state playoffs... This is the only number retired in the UC Davis stable. He had is first career start as Jr against Western Oregon (D2) in 1999. In that game he rushed for 114 yards and 2 TDs. On the first play of overtime, he dislocated his right knee and was transported to a hospital in Salem, OR. Due to complications, his lower right leg had to be amputated a week later at the UC Davis Medical Center. Despite his circumstance, he was noted as being cheerful and upbeat and attended the remaining games that season. He later married his college sweetheart and earned a law degree. He is now a lawyer working for the Alliance for Children's Rights, a non-profit in Los Angeles. He was one of the inaugural recipients of the NCAA Inspiration Award in 2001.
