Hmmm. Didn't we beat you last year? This year we're playing at home and you're going to beat us? By the time we play you we'll have a well-seasoned QB. You haven't got a chance. Once again, we take the Dam Cup.

Now that I had a chance to look more closely at the schedule while doing the 2012 outlook; optimistically I have the Hornets going 6-5, +/- 2. Brutal start with 2 money games, but at least a good balance between road and home games the rest of the way.
Re: Your team's 2012 regular season record. Step up.
Not sure what last year has to do with anything since both teams will be completely different. Plus no Kavanaugh or McAfrrey for PSU; yeah, I like our chances.frinq wrote:Hmmm. And who cares where the game is being played? The last time this series was played in Portland, PSU got stomped 50-17. What a difference a year makes, huh?

You have to be kidding me. I'd tack Montana and Portland State on for good measure. 4-4 in the BSC seems much more realistic for UND.

7-4
Losses to NDSU, UNI, Ind State, and one home loss(UC Davis maybe?)
I'm calling a win over Kansas(not sure if that's going out on a limb or not)

Our schedule is pretty brutal this year tho. The Conference didn't do us any favors.
Sat, Sep 01 VMI
Sat, Sep 08 Delaware
Sat, Sep 15 Cincinnati
Sat, Sep 22 FLORIDA A&M
Sat, Oct 06 Norfolk State
Sat, Oct 13 SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
Sat, Oct 20 NORTH CAROLINA A&T
Thu, Oct 25 Morgan State
Sat, Nov 03 NC Central
Sat, Nov 10 HAMPTON
Sat, Nov 17 Howard
Only game we may have a shot would have been Morgan but that with a quick turnaround from Homecoming.

Hey, Ranger, that game was back in the horrible Glanville years, when we were lucky to go 2-9. This is Burton, the coach in charge last year when we beat you. As for the loss of Kavanaugh and McCaffrey - let's wait and see. We have the runners to take McCaffrey's place. The only question is QB. EWU is good, for sure. But that good? It's a toss up, as far as I'm concerned. We'll just have to wait and see.
Re: Your team's 2012 regular season record. Step up.
Ok, fair enough. Just thought it was a little funny to say "we don't stand a chance" when we have a recent NC, multiple playoff appearances and conference titles and PSU has never won the Big Sky Conference one time since it's been a member.frinq wrote:Hey, Ranger, that game was back in the horrible Glanville years, when we were lucky to go 2-9. Actually, the 2010 beatdown was in Burton's first year. If we have trouble stopping the run this year as we did last year, yeah it will be a toss-up. If we don't though -- and many are saying that DL will be the biggest strength of our D -- then I see PSU having a hard time stopping us. Regardless, a far cry from "don't stand a chance."frinq wrote:Hey, Ranger, that game was back in the horrible Glanville years, when we were lucky to go 2-9. If you have trouble stopping the run this year you're in for a long afternoon against the Griz. I'm guessing they lean HEAVILY on the running game early in the season as the new QB gets his feet wet.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Actually, the 2010 beatdown was in Burton's first year. One could say the same about Montana's pass defense. I doubt anyone on the roster right now will come close to Johnson's ability at corner. Will UM have the secondary to stop Padron and three 1000+ yard receivers? Hmmm...AZGrizFan wrote:If you have trouble stopping the run this year you're in for a long afternoon against the Griz. If you don't have a run game to stop, it'll at least be more doable. Tawain is long gone...EWURanger wrote:One could say the same about Montana's pass defense. Exactly. It's no surprise that JJ (and pretty much all their QBs) shredded their secondary in the spring scrimmages. Hint: it's not because theirs QBs are All-World.EWURanger wrote:One could say the same about Montana's pass defense. That is true. A definite concern for Montana...EWURanger wrote:One could say the same about Montana's pass defense. Seem to remember Nova fans thinking the same thing. But yes, we tend to be an 8-3 "finesse" team when we're unbalanced like last year. Our o line play should be much improved this season with a bit more depth and hopefully a better running attack.Brock Landers wrote:Thank god we don't have to worry about your run game at least. Another wild card is Zak Johnson who was going to start ahead of JC Sherrit at mike his sophomore year until he got hurt. If he stays healthy Zak has the talent to be every bit the tackling machine that Sherrit was and with a little more size.
If we can run it decently and win some defensive battles up front, the ceiling is very high.

We have far more depth on the offensive line this year and some pretty good backs to run behind it. Run game will be fine...or at least it will be significantly better than last season.Brock Landers wrote:Thank god we don't have to worry about your run game at least.
