Now that we're a week and a half in, I must say that I definitely like the winter olympics better than summer. I don't know if it's just NBC completely whiffing on their coverage, but I was much more entertained by the last winter olympics. They really need curling in the summer olympics.

Lolo Jones unfortunantly finished 4th in the 100m hurdles.

I think she is my favorite Olympian.

The other issue with medal count is:

Shooting Women's 10m Air Pistol = 1 gold
Men's Basketball = 1 gold

I saw it already, and like I said, the problem was they threw the games so poorly. If they made it look better while trying to lose they would've been fine. And it is like the running and swimming heats - just like in those events, in badmiton the prelims are the round robin, and once you qualify, then there really is no credit for wins and losses, other than seeding. In the swimming and running, once you qualify for the next round, there really is no credit for wins and losses other than lane placement. Again, the biggest issue is that they looked so terrible in throwing the match, not that they didn't want to win.
Apparently, track just found the equivalent to the badminton throwing of a match. this guy had won his semis of the 1500 (there are allegations that he is doping or on drugs but that's another story - there were 2 semis with top 5 in each plus next 2 fastest qualifying for the finals) and was entered in the 800. In order to make sure he was fit enough for the 1500, he stepped off the track 200 meters into the 800 meter race. He has now been thrown out of the olympics. Track rules bascially say if you are entered in a race and you don't give an honest effort, you can no longer participate in any event.

He was reinstated and dominated the 1500. Manzano had an epic kick in the last 85M or so to lande USA the silver and first medal since Jim Ryun in 1968 in this event.

I think tribe was referring to the Algerian runner who took gold. He is the one that "pulled up limp" in the 800M, was kicked out, then reinstated, then cruised to a 1500M gold.

You are correct about whom I was referring. He supposedly got a doctor's note I think.

Never heard anything about Manzano using illegal substances. That said, in this day and age, if you tell me that any professional athlete is using, I wouldn't necessarily be shocked. Surprised in some circumstances but not shocked.

USA catching back up in the gold medal count; only one behind the Chinks.

Still five ahead in total medal count.

US should win both races - gold and overall, based on what events are left.

Badmiton is very popular world-wide, at least the medals are not won by a judges score.

Take-out Trampoline or Rythmic gymnatics, or change it to Rythmic orgasmics on a trampoline, girls only.

As a pasttime - yup, very popular. As a competitive sport, not so much.

Outside of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Denmark, not a lot of players.

No country besides China has won a gold medal at a major world championship in 3 years.

You are talking about almost half the worlds population in those countries. China #1 and Indonesia #4

66 of the 172 Badminton athletes in the games come from six countries:

China
South Korea
Japan
Indonesia
Taiwan
Denmark

There would have been more from those countries, but they reached max qualifiers for region.
