This was exactly my initial thought and why I think he's a good pick. Ryan's economics are proven not to work, but Obama has only partially reinflated a bubble and done very little to improve the economic fundamentals. Should be a very interesting contrast.

I'm still not voting for either one though.
Good thing you're not voting for either one because Obama is following the same economics that got Europe into the mess they're in in the first place. I'll take a version of Ryan's austerity economics over the spend money now to keep people fat, dumb & happy and we'll figure out how to (make our kids) pay for it later approach that Obama is following. It might hurt but it will put the country on the road to long term success and true prosperity faster than Obama's Hopium based ponzi scheme.
Long term is right. The Ryan Plan would balance the budget in 23 years. It's also a jobs and wage problem and cutting federal spending further reduces demand. Good god the spending hole we're in is deep.

From what I've read about him he definitely will be the smart guy in the room.
I'm concerned with D1B being in Ryan's closet. :kisswink:

Have the Democrats that say Ryans budget would prove disasterous for America provided us with a budget? Is there anyway we can compromise?

I doubt it. America is so polarized and I would say many are jaded.

Debt was 120% of GDP after WWII, we paid it off in less than a decade. Clinton left office with a surplus. :coffee:

Come to think of it, you know what else you can blame FDR for? We went 60 years without a major banking crisis until Glass-Steagal was destroyed. :coffee: :coffee:

Ryan's plan might not be perfect but at least it's a plan.

The only other alternative is Simpson Bowles which is a compromise and thus not going to happen.

Banks melted down before Glass-Steagall, too. The root cause is the entire Federal Reserve System.

That is what I thought. That is also my problem with Washington. If Congressman A comes up with a plan and all you do is say it's crazy, irresponible and dangerous then you really have no room to talk because you have no better plan. I think there is a great compromise in seriously reforming taxes and entitlements and prioritizing the defense budget.

Also, since when does Congress know better than the Pentagon? The DoD has a job and it knows what it does and doesn't need. However, Congress FORCES the Pentagon to buy more and more. I know what Congress is doing, but this doesn't seem responsible in the grand scheme of things. No, I don't want people to lose their jobs, but we can't afford to spend recklessly because Congress lacks the balls to make the difficult, correct decision.

I agree, not enough hype.

Yup, it appears a dark widow's peak and a plan for austerity pales in comparison to tits when it comes to picking GOP running mates.

We want to hear about the masterstroke choice of VPs. Compare and contrast with McCain's pick.

Admit It, I Scare The Ever-Loving Shit Out Of You, Don't I?
BY PAUL RYAN
CANDIDATE FOR VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
AUGUST 13, 2012 | ISSUE 48•33

When Mitt Romney selected me as his running mate, I knew the Democratic attack dogs would come out in full force. They would say I’m a right-wing ideologue. They would say my views on entitlement programs are far too radical. They would say putting me on the ticket immediately kills Mitt Romney’s chances of becoming president because I’m a liability. But if we’re being honest with each other—if we’re able to put aside the talking points for a few minutes and say what we’re all actually thinking and feeling—I believe we can acknowledge the real truth here.

I’m young, I’m handsome, I’m smart, and I’m articulate. And that scares the ever-loving shit out of you...

Hell, we're not even half way through August and Obama has already pulled the murder card. Rubio is a great guy and his time is coming, but Ryan is a budgetary genius and can explain complicated economic related issues in layman's terms.

Baldy's correct. Ryan has no peers regarding budgetary matters.

Next to regulatory/tax rollback (=jobs), there is no matter of greater importance.

Wack and spin all you want, jon...Ryan was a GREAT choice.

...yet, you'd still support Obama/Biden.
