BREAKING: Idaho football....

Post by Screamin_Eagle174 »

Will go to independent in football, but join the Big Sky in all other sports. Per Jim Allen of the Spokesman Review. I'll post a link as soon as I have one.

They are just delaying the inevitable, might as well just admit you made a mistake by moving up in the first place and come back to the Big Sky in ALL sports.... Wait, hold on, SCREW YOU Vandals, we don't want you for ANY sports, and neither does any other conference in the continental US.

They won't survive as Independent. I'll give it 3 years before they admit defeat and rejoin the BSC in football as well.

I'd like them back, for the sake of having another in-conference rivalry.

I assume Fullerton is thinking that this will open the way for them to re-join as an all sports member a couple years down the road.

Personally, I don't like it. If by some miracle they find a home for football then we're stuck with an ever stranger looking conference with 2 football affiliates and a non-football affiliate.

Also, doesn't the WAC sponsor more sports than the Big Sky? Where's the rest of their sports going if the WAC is completely defunct.

What happens with Seattle U and Denver? NMSU? I don't care about NMSU, but Seattle and Denver would be good Oly sports additions.

Wouldn't Seattle be kind of out of place as the only private school in the conference? Or does it even matter?

You're right, since the Big Sky is traditionally made up of state schools with fairly large enrollments - and I think Denver might be private as well. Seattle might be a better fit for the WCC, but I am fairly certain they have been turned down by them before.

I guess I am just thinking it would be cool for EWU to have somewhat of an in-state rival, even if it wouldn't be for football. It sucks having no natural in-state rivalries for football, but I guess PSU, UNC, ISU are all in the same boat.

I can see the logic of in-state rivals, but honestly the EWU vs PSU rivalry is building pretty well. A more logical rivalry would be with WSU - if WSU ever deigned to schedule you.

Agreed on PSU - EWU, and that might be the best we can hope for at this point in terms of PNW football rivalries.

Idaho will be a good rivalry in the olympic sports, and always was when they were in the BSC.

Agree to a point on WSU, but this is basically akin to saying that PSU should develop rivalries with UO and OSU. This year marks the first time in over a hundred years that we will play Washington State in football. Strange that we have played basically every other Pac-12 schools minus UCLA and USC in the past 10 years.

Will we be seeing divisions now?

Mountain

Montana
Montana State
Northern Colorado
Idaho
Idaho State
North Dakota

Pacific

Eastern Washington
Portland State
Northern Arizona
Weber State
Southern Utah
Sacramento State

I dont really like this setup (but it's the most probable) because it separates Weber from thier older rivals, but the teams will still play each other anyway, but just once a year which is better than not at all

Absolutely no way EWU would accept such an arrangement, as it seperates us from Idaho (45 minute drive) and Montana (90 minute drive)....absolutely no way.

Weber in the "Pacific" Division?

A North/South Division would work much better.

I say screw em if they ain't bringing football. But if it's going to happen then north/south divisions would be best.

North
Montana
Montana St
Idaho
E Wash
Portland St
N Dakota

South
Weber
Idaho St
N Colo
S Utah
N Arizona
Sac St

Idaho + Indy = Death!! No way will they afford to bring 5 or 6 teams to the Kibbie Dome and try to sell it out or have pretty good crowds. The past few years they had to rely on MAC teams or FCS teams to play them at home. Good luck trying to get a 11 or 12 game schedule filled. Just save everyone some time and hassle and join the Big Sky.

If there's snow/ice or construction, 3 is about right.

I highly doubt that Idaho would be challenging for the playoffs for the first five years of their return to "real" football....
