Get over it and stop using slavery as a crutch. THis is why black people are stunted in America and hated by blacks in other countries. I've met many Africans and European blacks, they have nothing good to say about American blacks.

My Irish ancestors were treated like ****, you don't see Irish Americans bitching and whinig. Slavery happened and it's been over since 1865. Jim Crow has been over since the 60's. Get over it. I'm sure the blacks that fought for Civil Rights would be embarassed to see the condition of blacks in America...and it's all from their own doing. :ohno: :tothehand:
Tell this to the IRA them them to forget all the injustices they endured at the hands of Great Britain.Didn't know Irish Americans had the pleasure of dealing with the slave trade.I seemed to remember their contributions to the detriment of black ppl in New York in the 1860s when they were burning down orphanages that were used by black ppl exclusively.I guess that was their way of getting over their mistreatment by their fellow Europeans.

C'mon dal - unless someone here has a gimp tied up in their basement no one on this board has ever owned or been a slave. It's fine to remember the past and take a lesson from it, but you can't live your life 150 yrs after it was officially ended as an excuse for any perceived injustices. I can't dunk or run a sub 4 minute mile but I don't blame that on how my German immigrant ancestors were treated in Philly when they immigrated in the late 1770's.

Not living my life in the past but that doesn't mean I will forget those that made my existence possible it would be an insult to those that lived in that era.It would be just like spitting on their collective graves to say what you endured doesn't matter to me.To me that is a insult of the highest degree.

Then as usual it will be up to the black ppl over there to make a way for themselves to show the world that black athletic does exist in the land of there ancestors.None of their white counterparts showed their faces on the medal podium. The only athlete from South Africa that I believe got on the podium was Castor Semenya their world class 800m specialist who had her gender brought into question.I think she got silver.Other than her all ppl talked about was Pistorius.
They won a total of 6 Olympic medals total, 3 Gold. They don't really have a well developed national sports program of any kind. South Africa demographics show about 79% Black, so yes they would have to make sports a priority to get the programs going.

Nor should they, especially when there are still Auschwitz survivors with their wrist tattoos living among us. There are a lot of distractions happening in Africa (including South Africa) that likely pull away support for cultivating world caliber Olympic athletes. Just a quick read below of travel warnings due to gang and terrorist activity encompasses nearly the entire continent:

I wish good things for Africa, but change happens at a glacial rate and with the levels of violence and political unrest rampant across the continent I doubt you'll see a lot of resources devoted to making a big splash on the international sports scene. :twocents:

As stated before ppl need to get on the bandwagon and start to use those resources or their might not be a continent. As for the survivors of Adolph&company of course they shouldn't forget but no one encourages them to either.I know all of the black ppl that came up in the era of the slave trade are dead and gone but the after effects of what they endured still has a strong residual effect upon black ppl of the modern era.Its easy for someone to tell black ppl to let bygones be bygones but if it were you the situation would be different I assure you.

I have nothing against, Pistorius it's that all the attention ,he got but accomplished nothing there, were other athletes that were more deserving of media attention than he was.The media focused upon him simply because of his medical disorder.Yes it was amazing to see him, compete vs able body athletes but he blew his chance to advance to the 400 final by running a high school like time of 46.54 in his semi-final race.I was personally hoping ,that he made the final just to see how he would have faired ,against those other guys was hoping for a sub 45 in the area of 44.7/44.9.He had a chance to make history, by becoming the first man in South African history to make a Olympic final. As stated before that honor went to Anaso Jobodwana a fellow South African.I'am not the only person who felt that he received too much media attention.
It was the MEDICAL DISABILITY that got the attention. Oscar could have been black, yellow, brown, from Zambia, Portugal, Paraguay, etc - who/where he was didn't matter...

Yes as stated before I had no problem with the human interest story that was Oscar Pistorius my problem was that the media lingered on it entirely too much.NBC made a big deal about him anchoring the SA 4x400 relay but they came in dead last!!! Frankly I'am surprised no one talked about Christophe LeMaitre from France and his groundbreaking efforts from two yrs ago when he made track& field history by becoming the FIRST WHITE SPRINTER to crash through the Ten Second barrier in the 100m dash running back to back to back efforts of 9.98,9.97 on his home soil.I jokingly told a childhood friend that if LeMaitre were American he would have been a household name already and Oprah Winfrey would have thrown a boatload of cash at him just to put his life story on a movie screen.

You really need to study the history of Southern Africa. I have been interested/studying this history of South Africa since high school. I took graduate history class in Southern Africa history taught by a black South African.

From your statement above, it is clear that you have no clue that the ancestors of 80+% of the current black South African population arrived in what is now South Africa at the same time or AFTER the Dutch got there? The Zulus migrated from Central Africa, and displaced/killed the native black population with far more intensity and vicousness than the white colonizers did.

Um - no. The Zulus are still there -the majority of black South Africans are Zulu.

No one is defending Arartheid. I was writing papers, encouraging boycotts against it while you were still in diapers. South Africa has made remarkable racial progress since the end of it. It took a truly visionary person like Nelson Mandala to pull it off

You seem to think that South Africa would be better off if all the white people, who have been there as long as the black people, all left. You are dead wrong on that. South Africa is a vibrant, mostly successful country BECAUSE the whites stayed, and worked under the new mostly black leadership of the country.
