She was leading today's Nationwide race in Montreal with 30 laps to go when a fan threw a shoe on the track. She ran over it and jacked up her steering. Had to make a long stop at the next caution and ended up getting wrecked in a crash back in the pack.

Still 0'fer in NASCAR in multiple series.

She was in front, her car picked it up because there was no way to avoid it, and the car spit it out to the side of the track. The others were far enough back so that there was no danger to them.

"Good" drivers? If they were that good and she is not, then why was she in the freaking lead so late in the race?

The idea is to be in the lead at the end of the race.

Crew chief Tony Eury Jr. said the shoe chucked into Danica Patrick's path and run over by the race-leading No. 7 Chevrolet in Saturday's Nationwide Series race in Montreal had no bearing on the two unrelated parts problems that soon after relegated her to a 27th-place finish.

"The shoe didn't have anything to do with it," Eury Jr. said in a phone interview with espnW.com. "It was funny listening to everybody talk about the shoe. I've never done that before. It could have done something to the splitter or went through the radiator just as easy and took the radiator out, but as far as the problems we had with the car, it was no relation."
