Incarnate Word will join the SLC in 2013, no word on the other 2 yet.

I don't know anything about them. Are they a religious school? Sorry if that is obvious. Any other private/religious schools in the Southland?Big McLargehuge wrote:Incarnate Word...wow, that's an awful name.

Really adds strength to the Conf. - 2-8 in DII last year. Need more patsies to feed on?

The climate in the SLC seems to be changing. Incarnate Word will be their first faith-based school; they are a Catholic liberal arts school. Abilene Christian is Church of Christ. U of New Orleans is part of the University of Louisiana system.JALMOND wrote:I don't know anything about them. Are they a religious school? Sorry if that is obvious. Nope. Houston Baptist and Oral Roberts are faith based and were invited before UIW.SuperHornet wrote:The climate in the SLC seems to be changing. Incarnate Word, located in San Antonio, has a ton of potential and is the largest Catholic university in the state of Texas ... New Orleans Saints owner, Tom Benson, is a major donor and the on-campus stadium is named after him and his family ... still a young football program, in the developing stages, but they're well-funded and located in a natural hot-bed for recruiting ... I don't think it will take long for them to catch up.JALMOND wrote:I don't know anything about them. Are they a religious school? Sorry if that is obvious. Abilene Christian is a D-II power with great tradition and were a charter member of the Southland Conference before dropping down ... getting them back would be a big plus for the league.
Oral Roberts strengthens the league in both basketball and baseball ... no football in the plans there.
UNO was virtually decimated by Hurricane Katrina, and their athletics program was already on the decline prior to that ... but they've left the LSU system for the University of Louisiana system, hired a new president and athletic director, and have seen an influx of private money since making the decision to drop down a couple of years ago ... they still have some work to do, but it looks like they've hit bottom and are now on their way back up ... there's talk of them adding football, and they do have a well-supported club program, but may be several years before they can get an FCS program off the ground.

Houston Baptist is still in the Great West. Oral Roberts hasn't moved, either.Fresno St. Alum wrote:Nope. Hoston Baptist and Oral Roberts are faith based and were invited before UIW.SuperHornet wrote:

Oral Roberts became an official member of the Southland on July 1st and will compete for league championships this year. Houston Baptist officially joins in 2013.SuperHornet wrote:Houston Baptist is still in the Great West. Oral Roberts hasn't moved, either.Fresno St. Alum wrote:

Both were invited before UIW thus making it the 3rd not the first any way you look at it. Invited 1st and joining before UIW, so in no way, shape, or form is UIW the firstSuperHornet wrote:Houston Baptist is still in the Great West. Oral Roberts hasn't moved, either.Fresno St. Alum wrote:

This is about adding members, not losing them.SJHornet wrote:At least they aren't using the WAC modelAZGrizFan wrote:
