Padron is transferring to EWU from Southern Methodist, just like last year's Walter Payton Award winner (Bo Levi Mitchell) did a couple years back. Padron has already proven he can play. In 24 starts at SMU. Padron threw for 5,902 yards and 41 touchdowns. But he was benched last year, and his transfer to EWU was held up until late April as he awaited an eligibility ruling by the NCAA. Padron has since been cleared and Eagles coach Beau Baldwin is licking his chops to mold the same results he got from Mitchell in what is a very QB-friendly offense. The formula worked once before, and there's no reason to think it won't again.

Big Sky Top Qb's
I was a little surprised by this one, considering Padron hasn't played a single down in the Big Sky yet. I think he has the potential to be the #1, but I would have thought Sorensen would get the nod given all his pre-season accolades.

Pretty good list, though I doubt I'd have Padron above #3, since he hasn't played a game in the big sky yet. Don't forget that even BLM struggled quite a bit when he first came in.
Hopefully McKinney can progress as well as JJ did last year. I think his running will surprise teams.

Sorensen may have the pre-season accolades, but it just doesn't matter until it's spilling out onto the field. Can't wait to see these guys in action. Also, it's probably note-worthy to add that Southern Utah's Brad Sorensen hasn't thrown a pass as a Big Sky QB yet either since SUU is in its inaugural season with the Big Sky.EWURanger wrote:I was a little surprised by this one, considering Padron hasn't played a single down in the Big Sky yet. Really?!?! How was he this past weekend? Other than a short stint at UNR, what makes you think he gets the nod?
Saffron looked awesome this past Saturday at the scrimmage, Magleby didnt touch the ball all day.

DENARIUS MCGHEE, JR., IMHO is the best all-around QB in the BSC. The guy is fun to watch...when he isnt playing Sac.

Erik Meyer and Matt Nichols weren't transfers, but we have to keep the bar high for our next QBs.weberwildcat wrote:damn u e wash and ur fbs trasnfers.EWURanger wrote:I was a little surprised by this one, considering Padron hasn't played a single down in the Big Sky yet. .7. BRADEN HANSON, SR., NORTH DAKOTA 2011 (at North Carolina): 56.2%, 185 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT, 140.9 efficiency. THE BUZZ FOR 2012: Hanson dropped down to North Dakota from North Carolina and has performed well in camp. Hanson never quite got an opportunity in Chapel Hill, but he was very highly touted as a prep. Hanson was the North Carolina high school player of the year in '07 (the No. 18 ranked QB in the country) and had offers from Michigan State, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and others. He threw for 5,600 yards and 81 TDs in his last two high school seasons. The lanky left-hander could be in for a big year in Grand Forks
I'm hoping he does this for UND. He has one shot...make the most of it!

Yup Magleby is hurt, looks like Safron will be the guy. I am OK with it as it sounds like he has had some development this offseason. Sounds like Peterson is already working his magic.Herky wrote:SuperHornet wrote:I know I don't have stats to back me up, but I'm banking on Magleby....

Sorenson's 2011 stats were surprisingly pedestrian. I think I would rank McGhee first with Padron and Sorenson a tie for second.
No question that Padron will have a learning curve but Baldwin (who played the position) and QB's coach Zach Hill have a proven track record, the offense is very passer friendly, and the targets are unbelievably talented.

I didn't know about Magleby's injury. I think we could have a Waterfield-Van Brocklin type of tandem this year if Magleby recovers. That, of course, would hamper the chances of either winning any sort of passing title, but we COULD have success with it.

While McGhee may be the best QB in the BSC, he's going to spend the bulk of the year running for his life behind that O-line.kalm wrote:Sorenson's 2011 stats were surprisingly pedestrian. I think I would rank McGhee first with Padron and Sorenson a tie for second.

Yeah, because his nearly 6000 yards, 40+ TDs (plus another 7 rushing), and 63% completion percentage in the year and a half prior mean nothing.mlbowl wrote:1. KYLE PADRON, JR., EASTERN WASHINGTON 2011 (at Southern Methodist): 45.0% 152 yds, 0 TD, 3 INT, 78.8 efficiency.
