Grade-schooler scores varsity TD
Great! I finally have my keyboard back in operation!
Thought some of you might like this, though others might freak. Those of you who called that fat kid a wimp for not playing up a level per his youth league rules have just found yourselves a convert. And it's all because of a tiny kid.
Franklin (TN) Christian Academy plays 8-man football since they're such a small school, even as a multi-level school. Even with that, they apparently don't have that many players. This past week or so, their soph starting quarterback went down with cramps. The only other QB on the roster was a 5'1" 100 lb 6th grader. Everyone in the stadium had to cringe when 12-year-old Andrew Robison lined up in the shotgun against HS kids. Apparently, his line did the job, because his first snap resulted in a 63-yard slant pass for a touchdown. This supposedly makes him the youngest varsity football player to score in a game. (The article mentions Tim Couch playing varsity ball as a 7th grader, but not scoring until he was at least a freshman.)
This is freaking awesome in my book!

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

There is no rule that girls cannot play in the NFL, and yet there are no girls in the NFL. Why?

To the best of my knowledge, Andy, only one girl has tried, and I'm not certain how serious she was. Given her stature in the world of sports, though, had she signed with the Chiefs, they would have sold out every freaking game.
I mean, NOBODY turns down a chance to see Mia Hamm, right?

So you're saying a stadium of people would buy tickets to see a kicker? SMFHSuperHornet wrote:To the best of my knowledge, Andy, only one girl has tried, and I'm not certain how serious she was. It really depends on where you are. In Lodi Unified, 6th grade is grade school. Of course, some of our private schools classify 6th grade as middle school. I was going off of my OWN experience of 6th grade as grade school.

That is correct. 6th grade was grade school in New Haven CT when I grew up.uofmman1122 wrote:.......Not to back up SH, but in Billings 6th grade is still grade school. It depends on the school district, IIRC.andy7171 wrote:Also, 6th grade is Middle School not Grade School.

It was grade school for my older son here in North Coventry PA.
My younger son was in middle school for 6th grade, they changed it after my older boy finished 6th grade.
