No chance. Edwards posted better numbers last season with another 1,000 receiver (Herd) on the roster. With Kaufman back in the mix Edwards won't have the same numbers as 2011, but he has three years of proven play compared to one good year by Rumble. Being the only viable offensive threat on your team (I.E. being thrown to every down) doesn't automatically make you the best in the conference. Rumble is good for sure, but not better than Edwards, and it's arguable whether he is better than Kaufman.

That's exactly why I picked Rumble this year. I thought it was 50/50 at the end of last year, & gave it to Edwards then due to the big TD disparity.
The fact that he has less around him makes the numbers he puts up more impressive, not less. Rumble's more likely to get doubled, & perhaps less likely to get as many good passes thrown his way. If their stats (particularly yards & TDs) end up even, I'm probably gonna go with Rumble.
I'm hopeful Idaho State will be improved in 2012, here are a few reasons why:
1) Year 2 and Kramer likes where his team is going, saying: “We are 100 times better than where we were last year, in every area,” and “There is not a thing that I wouldn't say we aren't better at.” Of course this is coach speak as ISU punting is clearly worse. ISU is losing an All-American punter to be replaced with the roll-punt.
2) Practice restrictions and scholarship reductions are gone. This should be manifest in improved game preparation and a larger roster. In fact, numbers are way up, ISU has at least 15 offensive lineman, I've never seen ISU have this many kids on the line; I'm serious, we've always been thin. Of course, most of the numbers are youthful, 43 freshmen on the team and less than a dozen hold outs from the Zamberlin era. Kramer was happy to see them go, saying the best thing about last year's seniors is that they graduated.
3) Offense should be better and less one-dimensional: Kramer indicated ISU needs to run the ball more effectively, the improved offensive line should help as well as a talented trio of young runners. Tavoy Moore was supposed to be a threat last year, but was booted mid-way through and never seemed to get back from a nagging injury. We get Cam Richmond back; he could have been a go-to receiver last year but was hurt early in the Washington State shortly after catching a 52 yard reception.
4) The schedule is favorable: home games against Black Hills, Sac State, UC Davis, NAU and Weber. Road breakthroughs could even come at Northern Colorado or Portland State.

His name is Covaugn DeBoskie and he was one of the top recruits out of AZ. He got stuck behind a couple of great backs at Cal who are now in the NFL. He did play and he will be a force in the Big Sky. Also something people will find out very quickly they have a great FB (FBS transfer) and their top reciever from 2 years ago was injured last year and did not play. He is blazing fast and has been converted to a tailback. They by far will have the best rushing attack in FCS.
As far as having nothing behind that? Their Defense again bolstered by FBS transfers and guys who were hurt last year and didn't get to play will do some Damage. Their top LB from last year got hurt in the 1st quarter of the Portland State game. He had a monster game against U of A. They are big, fast and tough. I am looking forward to seeing their new DE from Boise rip some QB's.
Everyone is going by what NAU has done in the past. The past is gone.
This is a new team, new coaches, new attitude and a sh#& load of athleticism.
Thanks for the scoop, JackParty. Who's the NAU linebacker who was injured last season...I'm drawing a blank? Will Austin Shanks line up at receiver and in the backfield this season? He had some wheels two seasons ago at receiver.
Charlie Huff played for the 49ers in their glory days. I knew his name rang a bell from somewhere.
How many fans/students from Flagstaff are making the trip down? I'm looking forward to watching the Jacks in Tempe on Thursday.

Kaufman, when he's healthy is a very good receiver. The key there is when healthy. He broke his leg in high school and that's when CU withdrew their offer for him. He seems to be always hurt.
Seems like everyone has UND under the radar. Nobodys knows us (except GWFC teams), they think past results will equal future results and that doesn't happen. We are the unknown in the conference. Which is good. No polls has us ranked (fine), we are ranked towards the bottom of the BSC (fine). But remember this...we have lost only 11 games in our building (first played in 2001), we beat 2 ranked teams last year, we have a QB that was the best out of North Carolina, and we are playoff eligible which equals more fans. Our building when full gets extremely loud...I cannot wait until Sept. 8th when PSU will find out how loud our fans can get, and I got my ticket to see it live. Let the season begin!!! I wish all the teams in the BSC luck on the season.

I wouldn't say always hurt. He had the injury in HS, but other than that he had two full seasons of collegiate play before he broke his hand last season.

The dome will be a nice advantage for you this season, but looking at your schedule I think it's the away games that will be difficult.

UND had trouble on the road in 2010 but turned it around in 2011 winning all their FCS road games and almost beating Fresno State too, but I do see UND losing to San Diego St, MSU and EWU. I think they can beat Sac St and UNC on the road.

I picked NoDak to start 4-1, then lose 5 of their last 6.

Should be a good crowd from NAU. Lots of buzz over this team.Sold more season tickets at NAU then in aany other previous season.
Ryan Reardon was the startin Sam backer last year against U of A. Played at Portland State/ transferred to ASU before coming to NAU. Shanks will add speed and verstility coming out of the backfield. I think he will also play slot. Huff also played for the Falcons.
There is a seriousness and a whole new level of professionalism on this team.

Bump.
He was partially right; the offense did their part, it was our defense that decided not to show up.
At that point, he also thought we'd still have JJ.
As GATW said, our defense was garbage this year, but JJ is 5x the QB any of our current ones are, so I think it's safe to say we probably could/should have won more games this year.
Hoping we can pull it off Saturday to salvage a winning season, but regardless this season has been nothing but a kick in the nuts since NAU.

Sometimes, yes. I think you're forgetting all the turnovers against App & NAU, the redzone problems against EWU, and the overall offensive malaise that occurred against SUU, though.
The Griz D has totally shut down the run against everyone but NAU, and the pass defense has been solid against teams with no run threat (like SUU and ISU). The Griz are last in total passing yardage allowed in the Big Sky, but are actually in the top half in ypa & passing efficiency D and also rank 3rd. in total defense (albeit a distant 3rd.).

Sounds like Montana is going to possibly have a tough year, that leaves the door open to anyone else, and UND is included in anyone else. Their toughest games will be EWU (easily winnable), Montana St on the road. I can see 6-2 and winning the conference.
Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:UND will not be in the mix for the BSC title next year. Three or four BSC wins tops for them.

It appears I was either dead on or way off on most every team in the league—not much in-between. I'll give myself kudos for nailing NAU's surprising success, PSU's disappointing lack of success, and for not buying the Southern Utah Kool-Aid, but I will shame myself for—in particular—being overly harsh on Sac and underrating Cal Poly.

In your defense, everyone fell for the "Hermey-Badger" hype in preseason.
All I know is Houston Roots and Trumaine Johnson are sorely missed, and Mike McCord very well could be one of the most under-appreciated players in Griz history.

No fucking kidding. Going into the season I wasn't expecting much (6-5, 4-4 BSC is more than what I thought was possible) but winless in the BSC was an inexplicable prediction.

I thought Sac had more personnel question marks than the other teams, though I knew they weren't the least talented. I thought the Hornets would be hurt by lack of cohesion a lot more than they were. They also had a tougher schedule than some of the weaker teams.
I almost gave Sperbeck my "Best Coaching Job" award above. I would've if Sac had beaten Davis.

Well I think finally having an OC made the world of difference. Sperbeck was incapable of crafting a competent offensive game plan and finally we got some help there. Defensively depth was added to the interior DL and that was huge for defending the run. Our LB's were solid coming in but our secondary never got it together. Also we had no kickers last season which cost us 2 wins in 2011. However the Hornet fan base is waiting for for Sperbeck to take this program to the next level. Just competing with the top programs is no longer enough.
