Phils beat Reds 6-2 behind Doc. Big early bombs by Kratz and Utley. Papschmear gives up yet another homer, this time in mopup role.

He has been the only reliable RP and you still hate on him.

The problem is that we have him for what, four more years, and his fastball will decline each year. He's been torched in some big games this year, notably by the Braves and the Mutts. And you should never bring him into a tie game.

Have you been paying attention to closers this year? Over half the mlb has changed them at least once. Not to mention paps is not a one off like most closers. He has been consistently great.

The one thing I noticed this morning however is they have passed two more teams. Usually it's not the 5 games that makes it hard, it's the number of teams to pass. Right now they only have to pass the Pirates and Dodgers and catch the Cards. Next 9 games are against bad teams (Marlins, Astros, Mets). The Phils could easily find themselves chasing only the Cards by the end of that stretch. I would say the Pirates have an easier stretch but they just got swept by the Cubs and have a four game set with them after the last two to the Reds.
