Phils win, Cards lose.

Phils are now 4 games out with 20 games remaining. Still a tough climb, but doable.

ESPN gives the Phils a 3% chance at making the playoffs.

Still way too early, but if the Phils pull this off....

What were they, like 15 games out of even a wild card at one point?

Keep repeating that mantra every day! And hope the Brewers lose a few, too.

I went back and checked the wild card race...

Phils were 13.5 games out of the wild card race on August 8th. They've made up 9.5 games in 34 days.

:? I'd give them a hell of a lot more than 3%.

The team is making strengths out of what were weaknesses before. The bullpen is pitching much better, Aumont has come in and lit a fire & Bastardo looks like he did most of 2011. The offense is hitting more consistently and they now have the solid bench they talked about in preseason. You also have Mayberry hitting now & Dom Brown is hitting too. The catcher situation is as good as I can ever remember it being.

Really it sounds crazy, but if Lee & Halladay can hold up this team could be OK. Kendrick is pitching even better than Hamels now & Cloyd is a better option that Worley before he was shut down.

Just keep it going today!!!

Phillies play the next four games in Houston.
St Louis plays four in Los Angeles.

Phils need at win at least 3 this weekend.

ESPN has their playoff chances up to 5%. :thumb:

To think the rally caught steam when J-Roll dogged it to 1st again...

J-Roll with a bomb yesterday, Lee pitched great, Aumont pitched great.

That's 2 sweeps in a row, would/should be 3 sweeps in a row if the Phillies don't get jobbed on that trap call that got butchered in Cincy.

Thanks go out to the Cards, Dodgers & Pirates for their nightly gagging, keep it up boys, choo, choo!!!!

We need to shake that Astro Hex that has dogged us in the past 10 years. But I sense that our karma is strong enough! :thumb:

Phils are about to choke one away. They take an early 4-0 lead, but then give up 3 runs. They just gave up another 3 in the bottom of the 8th with 2 outs and none on. :ohno:

8-6 Astros, Phils batting in the 9th.

It's a final. 8-6 Astros. The Phils have been on fire going 15-5 in the last 20 games. What really sucks is that in 3 of those losses the Phils have had leads of 3 runs or more.

I think the Phils are something like 17-25 in their last 42 games in Houston. This at a time when the Astros have sucked and the Phils have been winning the NL east every year. The Phillies can't win there, no matter how good they are or how bad the Astros are.

First, why was Cloyd only in there for 3 innings? (Note: I didn't see the game)
Second, I'm assuming Paps wasn't available tonight if Diekman came in to blow the lead. If there was one game to lose, I figured it would be this one anyway since Cloyd was starting.
Time to start another winning streak tomorrow!

It sucks that the Phillies waited until September to start their run......

Kind of like how they play in Pittsburgh. They need to sweep the last 3 somehow and get out of town. Bad loss.

Cloyd got to the 4th inning. Gave up a 3 run HR with nobody out. 4-0 lead was down to 4-3 and Cloyd was gone.

They blew the lead in the 8th, I don't know if Papelbon was available or not, but Charlie may not have wanted a 4 out save.

Another reason why Sandberg should be the manager.

Why are we paying Papelschmear $51M and not using him?

Let's see get a 4-out save last night & win a game you desperately needed to win, or save him for tonight when Hamels is pitching?? If you think you're steamed now, think how you'll feel tonight when the 8th & 9th are no relievers pitching in a save situation.

They stay with pitchers far too long - it's been happening all year with Bastardo. Aumont had absolutely nothing going right for him in the 8th inning. They should've gotten him out of there as soon as he had a baserunner - him getting two outs was more luck than they could've hoped for last night. Agreed, Paps needs to be in there with two outs in the 8th.
