Worst display of defense by both teams I have ever seen. I was asking myself when basketball started.

Epically great offense and epically bad defense in that game.

Ya gotta give ODU some credit. The Monarchs were down big and still found a way to win. Adverse situations are gonna happen to every team in the country and it's usually the best that step up to the plate.

Usually you stop the adversity before it gets to 61 points.

At least you guys got a wake up call about what a real opposing CAA offense looks like and it didn't cost you anything. Just like UD, you had no idea where you stood after three cupcakes.

I'm gonna see if I can find a way to watch the UD-UNH game next week. UNH runs the spread and they seem to have just as bad of a defense as we do, should be a good way to see how well we might do. They may not be exactly the same but I think they're closest to our style.

Back to back years of Swiss cheese defenses for both teams. Both teams ought to fire their defensive coordinators.

Didn't ODU already fire their defensive staff in the offseason?

Do you guys think you could leave the first string in for the entire game against Georgia State, no matter what happens? Please?

Actually, the difference is that last year's defense would have given up huge chunks of yards to Duquesne, Hampton, and Campbell as well.

That wasn't the worst. I forget the level right now, but one guy threw 101 passes in a game. Glad I wasn't him! That arm had to be hurting afterward....

Quite a track meet. It was entertaining to listen to as I was getting ready to tailgate for our game. ODU can obviously score points in a hurry, but they can apparently let them up in a hurry. They deserve plenty of credit though for being the team on top when that baby was all finished.

If I was the UNH coaching staff, I'd be shaking my head today thinking about 'what ifs'. But at this point, they're pretty accustomed to crapping the bed when it matters. How you don't start burning clock and shortening the game from the opening whistle is completely beyond me.

If I'm Delaware's coaching staff, or any other coaching staff in the league for that matter, I'm looking to turn a game against either ODU or UNH into a phone booth boxing match. Much like the last time we played both of them (ODU last year, UNH in the playoffs the year prior). Keep the opponent within arms reach. Run the football. Keep their offense off the field as much as possible. Play a little closer to the vest, and try to make it a less than 'glamorous' affair. Play the field position game for as long as possible.

I agree with your assessment on how to play us. But last year's game against ODU did not go according to "plan" as we somehow stuffed the run. You guys killed us in the air by keeping drives alive and that one big pass play after we took the 4th quarter lead. But we lost 3 pretty good DL's since then and still have not found any MLB's. I think you will find some space to run this year.

Last year, it still wasn't a pretty football game. More of a plodding, clock chewing passing game strategy we employed.

I don't know exactly how the game will go this year (plus there's just so much to do before then), but I do think we will look to find ways to create a more time consuming strategy against opponents like yourselves where it behooves us to do so (UNH, Towson as well). Dictating the pace and style of play is the only way anyone will beat you guys. I could always be proven wrong but I just don't think anyone, at least in this league, can beat you guys with any consistency by participating in a track meet. We'll look to ground and pound both UNH and ODU, toss in a couple wrinkles that may create bigger plays that are fewer and further between, but for the most part 'out physical' you. Plenty of running inside and outside. Screen passes. Pitches. Reverses. Some slants. A few TE catches, etc. (I actually think that was our strategy against WM, but it became irrelevant with the mistakes we forced on them.)

ODU's offense is better under Heinicke than Little Tom DeMarco, so it becomes even more important, to avoid mistakes of our own...and we did have a few against you guys last year.
