Is there not a ten second clock runoff under one minute in each half on the penalized team? If that is the case, it explains the game ending, not sure on the offensive interference.

That's only if it's the penalty that causes the clock to be stopped. Which, in my interpretation, was not the case since the clock stopped with the incomplete pass.

Besides, the ten-second runoff can be negated if the penalized team burns a timeout (which UNI did have a TO remaining)

I'm sure the clock operator will be getting a nice bonus from the coach (and/or YSU donors).
Granted, he or she only did what I would expect any hometown clock operator to do, but the officials should have overruled them. I mean, we see officials make a fuss out of 1 or 2 lost seconds in the middle of the first quarter or something where it makes absolutely no difference....

I'm just asking because I know that is the rule, wasn't sure of the interpretation...

At the end of the day, YSU won. Beat NDSU and you will be favored in every game the rest of the season.

1. Northern Iowa was called for offensive pass interference on the game's last play and both YSU safety Donald D'Alesio and Coach Eric Wolford said it was for running a pick route designed to clear out cornerback Julius Childs.
Wolford said UNI likes to run the route, which he told the officiating crew. He also said that the crew was aware of it from watching film.

This. There was no contact (thoughi wont deny uni did run a flag post route). No contact no penalty...just like in the defensive side. "pick routes"aren't, in it's self, illegal. Even if it was a penalty who was it on? Without knowing that we don't even know if it was a pick route. Also, good on the refs for letting the ysu coaching staff make a couple calls for them as well from the sounds of it

Why did the clock run 2 seconds off after the ball hit the ground incomplete?

The penalty would not have caused a run off for a couple reasons....absolute worst case UNI gets one play from the 20ish yard line

The PI would have been declined. You won't see it in the box score. I couldn't tell what they were calling there either, but none the less he dropped the ball with over 1 second left. There was a long second left in that game. I would have liked to have seen the end of the game.

I've watched the play 11 times now...there is litterally zero contact with ANY UNI WR and a YSU defender until the pass it knocked down...Also, this picture is after the ball has bounced TWICE and the ref is clearly signalling incomplete and blowing his whistle...

I hope Farley goes all UNLV from a couple years ago tonight





You can argue that we didn't play well enough to "deserve" to win....however, we deserved to have one more second back on the clock!

If you watch the actual video the deflected pass clearly doesn't land in the end zone,thus clearly the ball in said photo hasn't even landed yet,sorry but nice try:)

Correct, the ball didn't hit in the endzone....it also didn't hit 5-8 yards away from the players like the photo is showing. At that point the ball is coming off of it's second bounce still with over a second left.

It's kinda depressing the UNI will be out of the playoff picture if they lose next week (or any other week). The Panthers are definitely a Top 10 team, but they've faced a helluva brutal opening schedule.

such a distinction might matter in basketball, but in football, it makes absolutely no difference. 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds, 4 seconds. It all just means one more play.
