I've got Atlanta and Texas. Don't see how anyone can bet against a Medlin start at this point. Also, I hate the Braves and will be rooting for the O's so that pretty much locks it up for the teams I don't want to win.

I think the Rangers purposely tanked so they wouldn't face the Yankees in the ALDS.

Cards and Rangers will advance.

So, new WC format...

Under old WC format, B'more and Texas still would have had a one-game playoff to see how really was the WC.

Braves, on the other hand, are the big loser in this

Yup, nothing like finishing 6 games up on a team you beat 5 of 6 times and having a one game winner take all. :dunce:

Except it's against a team who has been playing meaningful games for the past 2 weeks and finally has all their guns loaded.

Where have I seen this before?

Well, if it bothers them that much, they should have won the division.

Baseball shouldn't have wildcards anyway, so if one gets killed off in a one-game series I don't mind.

Agreed. Braves have nothing to whine about. They finished second in their division - they should count their blessings that there are even wild cards to be had. Don't like it? Finish first then.

Oh, and I think Bal and StL move on - I can see the Braves finally losing a Medlin start - all streaks come to an end. And I think Texas is in a state of shock about how they coughed up the division like that and now need to go play the Orioles.

What is sacred about the division winners? With 162 games, including at least 6 games against every team in the other divisions in your league, it's VERY possible to be the second best team in all of baseball and be shut out of the playoffs without the WC. It's not like NCAA football where nobody plays anyone else in other conferences.

If you're a good (not great) team in a weak division you get the benefit of not having to rack up as many wins AND playing a much easier schedule. Detroit got in the playoffs tied with the worst record of all four WC teams. The AL Central had three teams with 90+ losses (only the NL Central had two).

Texas and ATL

Saunders is pitching for us. He is 0-6 and has a 9.38 ERA in Arlington. I'm not feeling confident... despite Texas's collapse.

Said Atlanta because they're at home (I don't know jack about the NL) and Baltimore because Texas is probably mentally long gone at this point. A one game playoff in baseball is virtually impossible to predict though

I feel awful for having typed these words. Saunders pitched a ridiculous game.

I'd rather see MLB go back to 4 divisions instead of 6. Too many small divisions increase the chance of a good team being left out in favor of an average team that won a weak division.

Expand the playoffs to 12 teams. 4 division winners get a bye, 8 WC teams play in a best of 3 series.

I don't like the 1 game play-in. It's okay to break a tie if two teams are even after 162 games, but I'd rather not see it for WC teams.

Kudos to you for pointing out your prediction. I didn't make a prediction, but I might very well have made the same one you did.

1 games playoffs are too hard ot predict. Anything can happen, throw logic out the window.

Was listening to a guy yesterday who is one of the best baseball handicappers in the country and he said this was the most difficult year he's ever had trying to predict because of the one game play-ins and because all the teams are so evenly matched.

Braves wouldn't have won a series of any length.
